In this 1976 report on Muslim behavior in the Lebanese civil war: In the corners of the streets of Beirut, small children exhibit bottles which contain human ears dunked in acid, like pickles or vinegar. Bodies are laying in the streets immersed with blood, some lacking their procreative organs, which were cut off and put in acid, for exhibition by children. This is an extremely common practice in the Muslim world. Arab and Muslim children are given bottles of pickled ears, eyeballs and penises as exhibitions of what was done to the enemy. And in many cases, these are exhibitions of what Muslims have done to their fellow Muslims.

Do we ever see this important news in media? Imagine what a change would occur, when a new Government in Israel made sure that all Americans and Israelis knew about this horror. The article above mentions 40,000 killed and wounded in 1976. During Lebanon's eight-year civil war, conservative estimates place the number of annihilated at over 300,000. Many of these were Muslims massacred by their fellow Muslims. This is quite normal in the Muslim world, look at Algeria today. 100,000 Algerian massacred fellow Arabs. In Syria in 1982, the butcher Assad slaughtered 20,000 of its own people in Hama Syria, all because they wanted a democratic Syria. Iraq gassed and killed 300,000 Kurds. 1 million Muslims killed each other in the Iran Iraq war. 125,000 Algerians have killed each other since 1992. Arabs and Iranian terrorists kill any democratic opposition in there countries.

The name Palestine, should not be made available to the Arabs in this area. Over the past two years, we've seen what the Palestinians have done with the autonomy generously granted to them by Israel.

They've slaughtered Israeli grandmothers and toddlers, pregnant women and elderly rabbis. They've set off their nail-studded, rat poison-laced bombs in shopping malls, disco's, pizzeria's, cafe's and university cafeterias.
They've turned school buses into blazing infernos, invaded home and shot mothers and children in their beds. They've dragged 13-year-old boys to caves and stoned them to death.

Those who don't actually pull the triggers, detonate the bombs or do the stoning, celebrate the atrocities in the streets of Ramallah and Jenin, as they danced in those same streets when other Arabs crashed two planes into the World Trade Center. These sadists even built an exhibition celebrating the Sbarros massacre.

When do you think the Arabs will realize, that murdering Israeli pizza-eaters, dance-club people, school kids, teenagers and sleeping five-year-olds is barbaric.

Somewhere a "Palestinian" watches the BBC and sees a kibbutz, called Metzer, which is getting along with its nearby Arab villages. This cannot be permitted to continue, so two attacks are planned against the place in one day. The first is foiled but the second does the trick. The terrorist bursts into the bedroom where a mother is putting her seven and nine year old sons to sleep. First he shoots the boys in the head to make sure their mother dies in agony, then he finishes her off.

But that's still not cruel enough, so the Palestinians come up with a better plan. At 7:30 in the morning, Israeli school kids crowd the number 20 bus in Jerusalem. A Palestinian homicide bomber gets on the bus and sits exactly where the Israeli children are seated. A second later the homicide bomber blows himself up and 11 Israeli school children are butchered to pieces. CNN interviewed the father of the homicide bomber, who expained his pride and how he encouraged his son to kill the Jews. When CNN asked him, how he felt that he murdered Israeli school kids? He said how proud he was of his son's actions.

After the Tel Aviv massacre on January 12th, where 2 Palestinian homicide bombers massacred 23 Israeli civilians. The PLO web site posted a statement -- celebrating the attacks:

The late Faisal Husseini, Arafat's Jerusalem representative, a man who was cultured, sophisticated and considered the most moderate of all the Palestinians, shortly before his death on May 31, 2001, expressed his true feelings in an interview with the popular Egyptian newspaper el Arav.

Husseini said: "We must distinguish the strategies and long-term goals from the political-phased goals which we are compelled to accept due to international pressures." But the "ultimate goal is the liberation of all of historical Palestine."

Explicitly he said: "Oslo has to be viewed as a Trojan Horse."

He even added and clarified that it is the obligation of all the Palestinian forces and factions to see the Oslo Accords as "temporary" steps to Israel's destruction.

Sari Nusseibeh is another supposed Palestinian moderate.
In an interview on Al-Jazeera television on July 14, translated by Memri. Nusseibeh praised everyone involved in jihad against Israel. On Oct. 24, the Palestinian Liberation Army Mufti, Sheikh Col. Nader Al-Tamini, said in a television debate on the Qatari Arabic cable news channel Al-Jazeera that there can be no peace with the Jews because they suck and use the blood of Arabs on the holidays of Passover and Purim.

Just four days later, the official Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram published a full-page article by columnist Adel Hamooda titled, "A Jewish Matzoh Made from Arab Blood." It retold the infamous blood libel story of 1840 in great detail, recounting it as a documented historical fact.

The author went on to explain that the Jews' "bestial drive" to add the blood of non-Jews to matzoh is at the root of the violence. He said Palestinians are often found without a single drop of blood in their bodies.

After the massacre of men, women, and children in a Jerusalem pizzeria by a Palestinian suicide bomber, there were probably some who believed that Israel would respond with a similar act of violent bloodletting. Reuters reports that "witnesses said they heard children who had been on their way to school screaming 'Mamma, Mamma' from the wreckage." Hamas confessed to the atrocity.

Ehud Olmert said, "Every time I come to such a site, I can't escape the thought that a living person entered the bus, and he saw the young kid of 6, 7 years old sitting, and he blows him apart. This is something that you have to see to understand how terrible it is."
The murderer's father, Azmi Abu Hilail, praised his sons actions butchering Israeli school children and said he would want his other children to become homicide bombers and murder Israeli civilians.

The Israelis have bent over backwards to try to accomodate the Palestinians including the best deal ever offered to Arafat by the Israelis during the Clinton Administration. All olive branch offered by the Israelis have met with more and more suicide (homicide) attacks.

Arafat and his henchmen prefer to keep his position as head terrorist and dictator in order to keep "his" people poor, miserable and angry and to insure his swiss bank account stays fat with EU $$ - sad but true. There is no democracy anywhere in the Arab world and this is equally true for those civilians under the PA control. I do not blame the Israelis at all. If you suffered a 9-11 attack on an almost daily basis like the Israelis do, at some point you will not be so agreeable, diplomatic or willing to offer a olive branch. The onus is on the Palestinians to stop killing Israeli civilians. But this will never happen, because Arafat is obsessed with implementing his phase by phase plan to destroy Israel.

In fact, the Palestinians broke the Oslo Accords precisely because of Israeli generosity, because the government of Ehud Barak offered to meet 100 percent of their demands, including turning over half of Jerusalem to their control -- a possibility once considered unthinkable.

Barak offered the Palestinians a state, something no Arab country ever did. Barak did this, even though the Palestinians never in history controlled these lands. These concessions confronted Arafat with the one outcome he did not want: Peace with Israel. Peace without the destruction of the "Jewish Entity.

I read something that 1999 was the only year that no Israeli civilians were killed by Arab terrorists in Israel. In that year, 99 percent of Palestinians were living under Arafat's rule. Not one time did Israel go in any Palestinian city in 1999. This is not to hard to figure out. Israel wouldn't go in one Palestinian city if the Palestinians stop killing Israeli civilians. Everytime Israel leaves a Palestinian city, what happens, the Palestinians resume terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. This forces Israel to go back in these cities.

Israel withdrew ELEVEN times from the West Bank to effect a cease-fire. Each time Israel was attacked by suicide bombers who massacred Israeli civilians in Israel. The Palestinian Authority failed to arrest them, and instead paid their families awards. Arafat even named streets after them as "martyrs". How can anyone take seriously, Arab leaders that encourage terror attacks against civilians?

You see, when someone wants to destroy you and kill your civilians. When you have 70 percent of Arabs who support homicide bombers against Israeli civilians. When you have Palestinian terrorists groups that refuse to sign an agreement, not to target Israeli woman and children. What do you expect Israel to do? When you hear about all the Israeli civilians being massacred. Thats only the Palestinian terrorist atrocities that got through. You know how many bus massacres, cafe massacres, Israeli security forces prevented.

When Israel was making peace with Egypt. How many times did Israeli soldiers attack Egypt? Zero Times.
When Israel was making peace with King Hussein. How many times did Israel attack Jordan? Zero times.

They didn't attack them, because Egyptians and Jordanians were murdering Israeli woman and children, like Palestinian terrorists are. I'll ask if, if everytime Israel leaves a Palestinian city and the second they leave, Palestinian terrorists from the city then massacre Israeli civilians. What do you expect Israel to do?

Several Palestinian officials from different groups have already arrived in Cairo for the conference. PA officials said the conference was expected to end in failure after most of the Palestinian groups announced that they would not halt their attacks against civilians inside Israel.

Can you imagine that, these Palestinians wont sign an agreement not to target woman and children in Israel. You couldn't find me a Hindu, Budhish, Jewish or Christian leader that wouldn't sign an agreement not to target innocent civilians. Only the murderous Arabs wont sign it.

Arafat replied: - his peace with Israel is based on the Hudaybiyah accord made by Mohammed.

Hudaybiyah is a small oasis between Mecca and Medina where Mohammed fought a battle in the early years of Islam. When he saw he was fighting a losing battle, Mohammed signed a strategic 10-year peace agreement with the Quraish tribe who lived in Mecca.

Two years later, when his forces were stronger, Muhammad invaded and destroyed the Quraish tribe. Arafat in 2001 justified the slaughter by saying, Muhammed´s peace treaty was only a "Lesser Value Agreement" because he had agreed to sign the treaty without the words.

Arafat referred to this principle in Islam known as Takiya, the right to fake peace when you are weak for the purposes of defeating your enemy when you are stronger.

On the same day in 1993 on which Yasser Arafat signed the Declaration of Principles on the White House lawn, he spoke the following words on Jordan TV:

The late Faisal Husseini, Arafat's Jerusalem representative, a man who was cultured, sophisticated and considered the most moderate of all the Palestinians, shortly before his death on May 31, 2001, expressed his true feelings in an interview with the popular Egyptian newspaper el Arav.

Husseini said: "We must distinguish the strategies and long-term goals from the political-phased goals which we are compelled to accept due to international pressures." But the "ultimate goal is the liberation of all of historical Palestine."

Explicitly he said: "Oslo has to be viewed as a Trojan Horse."

He even added and clarified that it is the obligation of all the Palestinian forces and factions to see the Oslo Accords as "temporary" steps to Israel's destruction.

Sheikh Muhammed Siyam, a Hamas military leader said this. "I've been told to restrict or restrain what I say. I hope no one is recording me or taking any pictures, as none are allowed, because I'm going to speak the truth to you," Siyam reportedly said at the conference. "It's simple. (AgapePress) - A Palestinian terrorist has told USA Today that his orders to kill Israeli citizens come from Yasser Arafat.

The paper identifies the terrorist as 33-year-old Maslama Thabet. He says the group he leads, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, is an integral part of Fatah. Fatah, headed by Arafat himself, is the largest group in the Palestinian Authority. In the interview, Thabet says "we are the armed wing of the organization ... we receive our instructions from Fatah ... our commander is Yasser Arafat himself."

The newspaper notes that in a televised address last Saturday, as Palestinians launched suicide attacks in Netanya and Jerusalem, Arafat urged Palestinians to "sacrifice themselves as martyrs in jihad for Palestine."

The report in USA Today goes on to quote Palestinian Authority officials who say most members of the Brigade receive salaries from Arafat's Palestinian Authority. As an example, it says the leader of the Brigade in Nablus is a salaried officer in the Palestinian National Security Force, one of 14 armed police and security services that report to Arafat.

Thabet's admission would seem to confirm what conservative activist David Horowitz says about Arafat, that he is a "murderer and a terrorist." Horowitz says Yasser Arafat is not motivated by any desire to establish a Palestinian homeland, as widely reported in the media.

Horowitz, who is president of the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, says the Palestinian strongman is motivated by hate. "Yasser Arafat is a murderer and a terrorist," he says. "Arabs got 90% of the Palestine mandate, and Jordan is still a country which contains 80% of the land mass of the so-called ‘Palestine mandate.’ Something like 70% of the Jordanian population are Palestinian. They never want a state in Jordan because it’s not run by Jews. They’re Jew-haters, that’s what they are. They’re Christian haters."

Horowitz believes Secretary of State Colin Powell is "weak" when it comes to his dealings with Arafat. "I think Colin Powell is very bad on this issue, as he is on many issues; but, he’s a tremendous strength for the Republican Party being there," he says. "As long as Bush keeps his head on his shoulders and keeps him in check, I’m happy."

Horowitz believes Arafat should be on a top ten most-wanted list because he says the Palestinian terrorist was responsible for killing an American ambassador.

(23 November 2002) a bulletin on their official website, advocating the murder of Jews simply for the fact of that they are Jews.

The bulletin was published to commemerate the anniversary of the death of Imad Akal, a senior Hamas official, killed in the Gaza Strip on November 24, 1993. The bulletin quotes Akal as saying: "We will knock on the doors of Heaven with the skulls of the Jews". The bulletin depicts an axe shattering
the word "Al-Yahud" (Jews) and splintering the skulls of Jews. The words Al-Qassam are engraved on the axe.

IDF anti-terror troops captured Tuesday night two Arab terrorists who were preparing to depart for suicide attacks. An explosives belt that was to be used by one of the Arabs was confiscated.

The first arrest occurred at the IDF’s Tamun checkpoint, some 28 miles east of Netanya. The terror suspect was identified as Mohammed Besharat of the Islamic Jihad group. IDF Intelligence sources say that Besharat’s explosives belt was found several hours before his arrest. The belt included 15 explosive charges surrounded by over 1,000 nails, packed in to increase injury.

The second arrest took place in the Nur a-Shams neighborhood of Tul Karm, located 10 miles east of Netanya. Abbed El Rachman Achmud of the Hamas terrorist organization was apprehended and according to military officials, he too was preparing for an attack in a nearby Israeli city.

Attempted Attacks Thwarted

An alert secretary in the Labor Party-affiliated Beit Berl College, outside Kfar Saba, helped prevent a major Palestinian terrorist attack today. She noticed a bag with suspicious wires alongside the college fence, and quickly alerted police. Upon arrival, they saw that it was connected to a cellular phone, which was to be its detonator, and police sappers neutralized it. The college is presently not in session due to the Passover vacation, but many students and faculty members are on campus for administrative and research purposes. Police believe that the terrorists were unaware of the vacation schedule.

Brig.-Gen. Amichai Shai, Commander of the Sharon Police District, told reporters that the 3-kilo explosive device was packed with an arsenal of nails, screws, metal ball bearings, razor blades, and even knives - all designed to intensify injuries. "If that bomb had gone off in a classroom or auditorium," Shai said, "it would have caused the same kind of damage as we saw in the Hebrew University bombing last year [when nine people were killed]."

An even larger explosive device, weighing 15 kilograms, was found near the Binyamin community of Psagot this afternoon. Sappers safely detonated it as well.

Wanted PFLP terrorist Yasser Ahmed Halili was captured in the kasbah market in Shechem (20 miles east of Netanya) as he was preparing to depart for a terror attack in an Israeli city today. An accomplice, Nidal Fakiyah of the PLO-Fatah terror organization, was apprehended with him.

Mofaz: Arafat gave 'green light' to suicide attacks

Information directly linking Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to terror organizations was presented Friday by Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz.

Addressing the Economic-Social Club in Nes Tziona, Mofaz charged that Arafat had instructed the heads of the organizations to kill more Israelis.

Referring to a never-before publicized conversation between Arafat and the leaders of the terror groups in February 2001, the defense minister charged that "the Palestinian plan was to cause a few thousand Israeli deaths within a number of months, so that Israel would give in to them... It was tantamount to giving a green light to the suicide terror attacks against Israel."

Mofaz said Hamas and Islamic Jihad began the suicide attack campaign and were joined a year or so ago by Arafat's Fatah organization. He noted that Israel was in possession of additional intelligence indicating Arafat's involvement in the terror, adding that the United States and other countries were also privy to this information.

In the past, Israel presented information concerning cash payments from Arafat's office to terror activists.

Significant information on the issue was published in June last year, when it was reported that shortly after the suicide attack at the French Hill junction in Jerusalem, that left seven Israelis dead, Arafat met with Fatah activist Mohammed Naifeh from Tul Karm, giving him $20,000 to be used for the operations of Fatah's military wing.

Israel passed on this information to U.S. President George W. Bush, who in turn, distanced himself from Arafat.

It is so frustrating to hear about another Palestinian bombing targeting Israeli civilians and to know that Israel lets the mastermind behind it continue to operate from Ramallah. Sharon, wake up and smell the coffee; don't you know that to kill a snake, you cut the head off, not the tail.

On the West Bank, a Palestinian university in Nablus has been putting on an exhibition celebrating the Palestinian suicide bombing of a family pizza restaurant in Israel. The bombing murdered 15 Israeli civilians, including 4 children. The exhibition consisted of a replica of the Sbarro's restaurant, complete with replicas of human body parts and pizza slices were strewn. Thousands of Palestinians have visited the exhibit.

The exibition was built in the name of Muhammad, who murdered every Non muslim man woman and child. Is Islamic culture, when you slaughter woman and children, you build exhibitions celebrating this.

Among the myriad of anti-American causes that have spilled into the leftwing cesspool known as the "peace movement," support for the bloodthirsty Palestinians is perhaps the most disgusting. To the left-wing America-haters who constitute the new "anti-war" movement, being "pro-Palestine" somehow translates into being "anti-war." Never mind the fact that the Muslim radicals who attacked America on 9-11 used Palestinian suicide bombings in Israel as a model for their sinister plot.
The American left views Palestinian radicals as "freedom fighters," therefore liberating "Palestine" has become one of the central battles of the new "anti-war" movement.

To ensure that fledgling radicals know which position to take in regard to the Arab-Israeli war, the website of the Workers World Party (WWP)- the Stalinist cult that bankrolls the current "peace" movement- lays out plainly how all good lefties should view Israel. The website contains hundreds of articles filled with anti-Jew vitriol, and loathsome denunciations of the "Imperialist" Jewish state. Another radical organization that is active in the "peace" movement actually arranges for leftwing malcontents to travel from America to Israel. There, the radical Jew-haters carry out plots to sabotage the Israeli Army's peacekeeping efforts. The group's website boasts photographs of the left-wing thugs whom it sponsors engaged in physical confrontations with Israeli soldiers. This dangerous organization, called "The International Solidarity Movement," has chapters in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Michigan, Washington and Sweden.

The movement to "liberate Palestine" is a movement that defines itself by its hatred of Jews and a violent desire to spill their blood. The American and international left, however, chooses to ignore this cold fact. It instead throws its weight behind the Palestinian "liberation movement" because it believes that the Palestinians are "oppressed" by the Israelis, whom the left considers agents of "Western Imperialism."

The left believes that the warfare in Israel is a "cycle of violence," rather than an offensive terrorist war against Israeli civilians. It believes that Israeli soldiers are to blame for the ongoing warfare- that when the Israeli military moves into a Palestinian village to root out terrorists, it is not attempting to stop future terrorist attacks but is instead taking "revenge" on out-gunned Palestinians. The left has been on the wrong side of every important issue in history. Its position on the Arab-Israeli war is no exception.

The best way to understand what it means to be "pro-Palestine" is to look at the agenda of the Arab organizations that are working for "Palestinian liberation." Since its inception, the PLO has taken part in hundreds of terrorist attacks against Israelis. In recent years, Arafat has paid lip service to a Palestinian desire for peace, but the PLO's ambition to drive the Jews into the sea continues.

Consider, for example, a statement that Arafat made in the aftermath of a recent suicide attack in which 29 Israeli civilians were slaughtered at a Passover celebration. Referring to this attack, the bloodthirsty Arafat prayed: "Oh God, give me martyrdom like this. We are all potential martyrs, the whole Palestinian people." In a speech in Sweden in January 1996, the Palestinian leader declared: "You understand that we plan to eliminate the State of Israel and establish a purely Palestinian State. We will make life unbearable for Jews by psychological warfare and population explosion; Jews will not want to live among us Arabs!"
In September 2002, Arafat stated "By Allah I swear that the Palestinian people are prepared to sacrifice the last boy and the last girl so that the Palestinian flag will be flown over the walls, the churches, and the mosques of Jerusalem."

Arafat's statements are right in line with the attitude towards Jewry that prevails among Arab leaders and officials. In a letter to President Bush and the United States Congress, a member of the Consultative Council of Saudi Arabia, named Amhed al-Tuwaijri, actually had the gall to openly defend suicide bombings. In the letter, dated April 16, 2002, the Saudi official writes: "When young men and women offered their souls for the sake of freedom and independence and in defense of their religion, dignity, self and family, the United States could not find anything to describe these great sacrifices except to say they are terrorist, criminal actions." I suppose it should not be surprising that a Saudi official would make such a horrific statement. Saudi Arabia, after all, is a nation that recently held a telethon, during which one hundred million dollars was raised for Palestinian suicide bombers.

Support and encouragement for suicide attacks against innocent Israelis is also commonplace among Palestinian clergy. On April 12, 2002, in a televised sermon that was delivered from a mosque in Gaza City, an Imam of the Palestinian Authority unleashed the following message to his Arab disciples: "Anyone who does not attain martyrdom in these days should wake in the middle of the night and say: 'My God, why have you deprived me of martyrdom for your sake? For the martyr lives next to Allah.'" He then continued:

"Oh Allah, accept our martyrs in the highest heaven."

"Oh Allah, show the Jews a black day."

"Oh Allah, annihilate the Jews and their supporters."

"Oh Allah, raise the flag of Jihad across the land."

Not only do Arabs encounter suicidal messages in their mosques, but Palestinian children are actually bred, through schooling, to rejoice in the slaughter of innocent Jews. Consider the following line excerpted from a Palestinian schoolbook, "I will take my soul into my hands and hurl it into the abyss of death." Or this line, taken from another textbook: "Beware of the Jews, for they are treacherous and disloyal." Or this line from the PLO teachers guide, which is placed under the heading "important values" that should be instilled in Palestinian youth: "Wrath to the alien thief [Israel] who obliterated the Homeland and dispersed its people."

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Palestinian liberation movement is about killing Jews. There is no effective voice of moderation among the Palestinian leadership or clergy. There is nobody in the Palestinian community who is effectively promoting a peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli war. To the terrorist organizations that are leading the movement to "liberate Palestine," the possibility of living side by side with Jews is unthinkable. In their minds, the Jews are infidels who deserve to be driven from the Middle East through a bloody Jihad.

To put this all into perspective it is necessary to look at the historical roots of the Palestinians' war against Israel. Prior to the First World War, what is today called Israel was part of the Ottoman Empire and was known as Palestine- though it was not considered the "nation" of Palestine. Nor were the Arabs who lived there considered "Palestinians." They were considered- and they considered themselves-"Arabs." In the aftermath of WWI, the Ottoman Empire, which had allied with Germany, was divided up among the British and French victors. The area then known as Palestine came under British rule. During this period, the area known as Palestine experienced an influx of European Jews.

In the wake of the holocaust, a movement for a Jewish nation-state garnered support from the United Nations. Throughout the 1930s, as the rise of Hitler catalyzed intensive Jewish immigration to the area of Palestine, tensions between Jews and Arabs escalated and two attempts by the British, in 1937 and in 1939, to divide the land between Arabs and Jews were rejected. The Arabs rejected the first attempt, and the Jews rejected the second attempt, which would have restricted the rights of Jews to immigrate and own land.

At the close of World War II, an acceleration of fighting between Jews and Arabs in this area prompted Britain's decision to turn the problem over to the United Nations, which supported the creation of a Jewish state. On May 14, 1948, Britain officially withdrew from the area and Israel was declared a nation. On this very day, five neighboring Arab countries- Egypt, Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, Iraq and Syria attacked Israel. Amazingly, the outnumbered Jewish nation was able to beat back its Arab foes and a peace treaty was signed in 1949. When the war ended, Egypt was in control of the Gaza Strip and Trans-Jordan had annexed the West Bank (these territories were later won by Israel in the 1967 war).

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) was formed in 1964. From the outset, the PLO stated that its ultimate goal is to drive the Jews into the sea. The destruction of the state of Israel was actually laid out plainly in the PLO Charter until PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat ordered it removed in 1993. Arafat, however, still wears the official sign of the PLO - a map of the future state of Palestine - on the sleeve of his military uniform. This map shows Palestine encompassing the entire land of Israel. This is the goal of the PLO: to destroy Israel and replace it with an Arab nation called "Palestine." Among the leadership of the Palestinian liberation movement Yasser Arafat is actually a moderate voice. This is a man who funds terrorism and publicly encourages (in Arabic) his followers to carry out suicide attacks against innocent, defenseless Israeli men, women and children. Arafat is a man who walked away from peace talks in 2000 after then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered to give the Palestinians 99% of the land that they demanded. Arafat did not accept Israel's concession for one reason: in Arafat's words, "Peace for us means the destruction of Israel."

Until terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade are brought to heel; until the PLO ceases funding and encouraging terrorism; until there is a deep change in the cultural attitudes of Palestinians, the Arab war against Israeli will persist. Innocent Israeli civilians will continue to be blown to pieces by Jew-hating Muslim radicals; children will continue to be incinerated in their school buses; babies will continue to die in their strollers on city sidewalks; old men and women will continue to be slaughtered by madmen in street-side cafes. These are the realities of the Palestinian "liberation movement." The next time that a Western "peace" demonstrator feels compelled to pick up a Palestinian flag and wave it in the air, he should take a look at the news photos of Jewish bodies strewn across Israeli streets and think about what he is actually supporting.

Until the Palestinian corrupt terror leadership is removed, their terror groups dismantled and disarmed, and incitement to hate among their population ended, there really is no point in considering the folly of "pressuring" Israel to accede in the creation of a terror state right on its doorstep.

Last week, Israeli security forces announced the capture of a Fatah-affiliated teenager sent on a suicide mission meant to kill hundreds of people.
Officials said the target was a home for 180 orphans and homeless children in Jerusalem. They said the 17-year-old Palestinian from the Bethlehem area was sent with a suitcase filled with explosives to blow up the school.

The Magistrate Court of Acco (Acre) has lifted the gag order on the arrest of three Israeli Arabs from the Galilee village of Manda for involvement in a terrorist organization. According to the charges to be filed against them, the three, cousins from the same village, volunteered for the Islamic Jihad and were asked to carry out terrorist attacks against Jewish targets. The three confessed to the charges against them and conformed their intention to carry out a terrorist attack against mall-goers in Haifa.

Ilan Pappe shown to be a liar

About four years ago a middle aged MA student named Teddy Katz, submitted a masters thesis to the University of Haifa that had been prepared under the supervision of Israels most extremist and anti-Zionist academic, Ilan Pappe. Pappe likes to describe himself as Israels most hated person and I suspect he may be on to something there.

He spends his days addressing anti-Israel and anti-Jewish rallies and conferences around the globe and likes to write Israel-bashing pieces in the PLOs journal. He appears in al-Ahram. He has openly called for Israel's destruction - to be replaced by a Palestinian state with Arafat as its dictator.

He ran for the Knesset on the slate of the Arab Stalinist party HADASH.
The MA thesis in question claimed that a platoon of the Alexandroni brigade of the Hagana had in 1948 conducted a massacre of Arabs at the town of Tantora near Haifa when the town was conquered in Israels war of independence.

It was of course, as it turned out, a complete fabrication based on some Arabs suddenly recovering from repressed memory syndrome after 50 years and claiming there had been a massacre when they were infants. Except when the tapes of interviews with these folks were checked out, it turned out even these Arabs had never said there was any massacre but rather that the Hagana had been very nice about helping the civilians.

Katz and Pappe had simply invented the story. When word hit the press, the Hagana vets organization sued Katz and the University of Haifa for libel. Eventually the matter reached a court settlement in which Katz agreed to admit publicly he had lied, publish a retraction at his own expense, and apologize to the vets. Katz was represented in all this by ultras-leftist lawyer Avigdor Feldman, who took time off from his usual passion for representing Arabs who have murdered Jewish children.

Feldman was present when Katz signed the court settlement.
But a few days after that, Katz tried to back out of the settlement, probably under encouragement to do so by Pappe, who continues to insist the massacre really took place even though not a shred of evidence has ever been discovered by anyone that there had been one. (Even Arab journalists and reporters who had been present at the battle never claimed there had been any massacre.) The judge refused to allow Katz to back out of the deal. When Katz refused to publish the retraction, the vets successfully sued Katz to recover their costs. Pappe and the communists then organized a campaign to try to raise cash to help out Katz with this.

Meanwhile, the University of Haifa looked ridiculous in all of this and demanded that Katz submit a revised version of the thesis if he wanted a degree. The original version had been awarded a grade of 97 by Pappe and his collaborators.

Katz ultimately did resubmit a revised thesis. This week the University of Haifa rejected it, after five independent reviewers had read it and dismissed it as garbage. Pappe and his comrades are running about now insisting that these five were lackeys of Ariel Sharon and George Bush or some similar sort of academically scrupulous argument. The University agreed to kick Katz out by granting him a MA degree without a thesis, an act of cowardice by the campus authorities. Katz should have been simply expelled permanently and Pappe fired for his role in the fabrication and charlatanism.

Anyway, I have decided to make an alternative proposal about how the university could better resolve things. Why not just let Katz write a completely NEW thesis on a different topic under Pappes supervision? This time the thesis should be on one of these topics:

- An oral history proving the Germans never killed any Jews in Auschwitz.

- An oral history proving that Lincoln actually shot John Wilkes Booth at that theater.

- Proof that the Mossad was really behind the attack on the WTC on September 11.

- An oral history that proves that Jews, and especially settlers, drink the blood of gentile children on Passover after all.
I bet Pappe would give the new thesis a grade of 98!

I heard this on WABC radio a few minutes ago. I haven't seen it on Internet news yet. The Los Angeles Airport El-AL Airlines ticket counter attack was indeed terrorism! The suspect has strong pro-palestinian, anti-Israel/anti-American beliefs. The FBI finally has classified this as terrorism. I suspect most of us knew that already.

Can't you people see that the Egyptian man was upset because there were Jews at the counter! Why can't we be more sensitive to the needs of Muslims and make Jews hide themselves when Egyptians & Arabs come around.

(Song Translation) “I foresee my death, but I march quickly. Am I afraid? Life has little value because I'm returning to my lord and my people will know I am a hero.”

That message is repeated again and again in song and verse.

The children, most of them elementary school age, shout a message of violence.

“I will return with the dawn of tomorrow. It is my conviction of launch a jihad.”

If you're like most Americans, you had no idea that the show existed, but the Children's Club is no secret to Israelis.

“I am still shocked every time I see it,” says Hela Crown-Tamir who lived in Israel for 19 years.

“Imagine a teacher telling them bravo, "Crown-Tamir says, "because they're going to grow up to be a militant Islamic suicide bomber.”

Crown-Tamir moved back to The Tampa Bay area to escape the violence that ruined her travel business. She says Americans are just now waking up to the realities Israelis have been facing for years, that children are trained as suicide bombers. Because it's so dramatic, some Israeli groups have used excerpts from The Children's Club to produce a campaign against Palestinian leader Yassir Arafat.

But are Palestinian children really educated this way? Or is this just an Israeli propaganda tool? We contacted several Islamic groups in the Tampa Bay area, but no one from any of those organizations would even agree to watch the tape.

But University of South Florida professor Abdelwahab Hachiche did agree to watch it.

“I always keep a reasonable degree of skepticism about anything I see or anything I read.”

Hachiche is an internationally recognized expert on Mideast terrorism. He's also an Arab and a Moslem. Until we gave him the tape, he'd never heard of the show. And while he says he has no idea who produced it, he says the translations are accurate and the problem is real.

“And the indoctrination and the danger of indoctrination is very, very serious.”

Dr. Hachiche calls this kind of teaching nothing short of infanticide. But he hopes children growing up in today's Islamic world will ultimately reject these messages of hatred.

“On both sides the younger generation are looking for true leaders who will have the courage to overcome this passion that is leading to mutual destruction.”

Still, in the mid-east the violence continues. And now even in America we're looking terrorism right in the face-- listening and wondering if this is the voice of the future.

Official PA TV: Pressures Exerted on Palestinian Children to seek Shahada - Death for Allah

TV: Child Writes to Mother, "Rejoice over My Death"
"Ask for Death - the life will be given to you." This slogan, which was broadcast on Palestinian television on July 5th of last year, was also the headline chosen by the authors of Palestinian Media Watch as the title of their 40th research report. This report examines the social pressure exerted by the Palestinian Authority [PA] on children to die as "Shahids" [Death for Allah].

The written findings of the report are presented with a CD, which is not easy to watch. The televised evidence, includes educational films specially prepared for children that have been broadcast in the Palestinian Authority, texts from PA schoolbooks, and quotes from statements issued by political and religious figures in the Palestinian Authority.

One particular "educational" film clip, which was broadcast regularly during 2001 and 2002 as often as three times a day, shows a child writing a farewell letter to his mother in which he declares, "Rejoice over my death and do not cry for me," and also "How sweet is Shahada [Death for Allah] when I embrace you, my land." This text is recited over a backdrop of a picture showing the child falling to the ground "embracing" the earth.

One short broadcast shows the most famous child Shahid, Muhammad Al-Dura, whose death was captured on camera, apparently calling to Palestinian children, "Join me in Paradise." A child actor plays Al-Dura in fictional scenes of his life in Paradise, frolicking in an amusement park with a kite and on the beach. "How pleasant is the fragrance of Shahids.I go with no fear or tears," says the fictional Al-Dura. The program begins with the caption, "I am waving not to part, but to say you, 'Follow me.' And is signed: "Muhammad Al-Dura"

The report also displays texts that appear in widely-used school books published by the Palestinian Education Ministry, such as the "Song of the Shahid," which is found in four different publications. In one book, "Islamic Education for the Eighth Grade," on page 176, states that, "The Moslem sacrifices himself for his belief , and wages Jihad [Holy War] for Allah. He is not swayed, for he knows that the date of his death as a Shahid on the field of battle is preferable to death in his bed."

The November 2000 issue of "Al-Hayat Al-Jadida," a PA newspaper, quotes "The sports teacher of Wajdi Al-Hattab," [a 14 year old student] "responded to Allah's call and achieved the Shahada he yearned for."

The teacher relates that, "Wajdi asked me to give out cake when he becomes a Shahid." The newspaper also reports that Wajdi's classmates "swore that they would follow the path of Shahada until the liberation of Jerusalem."

The author of the report, Itamar Marcus, writes that many cultural programs "encourage Shahada and show approval for those who are killed. Many television broadcasts include songs and dances accompanied by photographs of violence and highlight how right it is to die for the sake of Allah."

Marcus gives the example of a song [broadcast 3 times on PA TV] that was composed in memory of Wafa Idris, the first woman suicide bomber. The song was recorded at a concert in Egypt, and it describes Idris as a "flower" and a "heartbeat of pride." "In death, you have brought life to our will," the song continues.

In the past Marcus and his institute issued a comprehensive report into Palestinian study material and helped to expose Yasser Arafat's "Hudaybia Speech," in which Arafat compared the Oslo Agreement with the Hudaybia Pact, which the prophet Muhammad signed expressly in order to break later. This time Palestinian Media Watch also brings relevant quotes from Yasser Arafat, who expresses his pride in the Shahids. In a speech given to children who were attending a summer camp, Arafat states, "You are the peers of Faris Ouda [a youth who planned his own death as a Shahid] Onwards together to Jerusalem." In response, the children call out, "Millions of Shahids marching to Jerusalem."

The report also brings examples of the statements issued by the parents of suicide bombers, in which they welcome their children's deaths, and express their satisfaction and joy. The mother of one boy who was killed states: "Praise to God, the Master of the Universe. I can raise my head up high and I have glory and pride. My son is a Shahid. But it is not just my son. All of the Shahids are my children."
The mother of Abbas Al-Awiwi states, "The greatest mother's day present I received this year is the death as a Shahid of Abbas."

Marcus and his staff also bring quotes from speeches delivered by religious leaders. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Madi stated on Palestinian television in June 2001: "Shame upon he who does not educate his children the education of Jihad. blessings upon he who dons a vest of explosives belt on himself or on his children and goes in to the midst of the Jews".

Sheikh Abd al-Razak stated on Palestinian television on 22nd March 2002: "Allah has planted within our youth the love of Jihad, the love of Shahada. Our youth have turned into bombs, they blow themselves up among them [Israelis] day and night."
Marcus and his colleagues have concluded that, having been exposed to such messages, young Palestinian children from the ages of six till nine play "death" games and role-play the dead. Children between the ages of 10 to 13 express the will to die, sometimes in televised interviews, and from the age of 14 some even take part in suicide attacks.

Arabic paper, book encourage kids to emulate suicide bombers

Two Arabic publications are encouraging children to to view suicide bombers as role models. One is an Iranian newspaper for children printed in Kuwait and is also distributed to the Moslem world via the Internet, while the other is a children's paper printed by Hamas. Details on the publications were released on the IDF Web site.

In July this year the Iranian children's newspaper Mojitaba published the story of a suicide bomber from Jenin who blew himself up in a bus in Afula on November 29, 2001, killing three Israelis and wounding scores. The item that appears in the story of the week section is called "The Hero and the Holy War in Palestine" and describes the background of the suicide bomber, Samar Shawahneh, and details leading up to when he blew himself up.

It claims that during the holy month of Ramadan, Shawahneh prayed daily at the mosque and on the eve of the bomb attack remained at home, where he prayed and then broke the fast with his family. The story describes how he then set out for a "Zionist neighborhood" where he boarded a bus full of "Zionists" and blew himself up. The story claims the attack "brought fear to the hearts and homes of the Zionists."

After the incident, people thronged to his parents' home to express their condolences and were greeted by his mother who bore a tray of sweets and said: "My son is the one who chose to die for Allah, it was his most important ambition, he refused to marry but told me to wait for a big wedding. Today is the wedding to celebrate his death for Jerusalem and Al Aksa."

In an article called "The Occupier" that appeared in a recent Hamas children's newspaper, children are encouraged to view suicide bombers as supreme beings. The paper publishes the testimony of Ismail Abu Hamdan, killed on March 16 while planting a bomb near Netzarim in the Gaza Strip.

In it, he claims to have fulfilled his lifelong wish to die as a martyr for Allah, and he asks his mother to be happy as he will marry 72 virgins in Paradise, and he asks her not to cry. He also calls on his sisters and brothers to educate their children to attend prayers at the mosque and study the Koran and teach them love for Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, and the love of jihad.

How is that worse than Israelis killing children for throwing rocks at tanks?

When people are oppressed, attacked, homes destroyed, and basically imprisoned on small stretches of land, it will breed some blowback. While not an excuse, it is human nature to fight back.

While not reported by mainstream media, far more Palestinians die at the hands of Israelis than vice versa.

And now with the Israelis deliberately targeting Peace Activists, such as Rachel Corey and 4 others, it's not too difficult to see who the "biggest bad guy" of them all is.

So quit the "Israel is the Victim" whining -- we hear enough of that in the mainstream press, and most of us that use alternative media can't be fooled by your ultra-right wing propaganda. We know too much about your motives.

New Israeli Crimes in Gaza - IOF Kill Eleven People Including an American Peace Activist

In a serious escalation of their aggression in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) murdered eleven civilians in the Gaza Strip. Rachel Corey, a 24-year-old peace activist from Washington US, was murdered. In addition, ten Palestinian civilians were killed around the Strip; five of them are children.

At around 4:45 pm Sunday, 16 March, 2003, an Israeli bulldozer driver murdered Rachel Corey while she was protesting against home demolition in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. Corey and seven other members of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) were in the site, which has been subject to frequent Israeli incursions and regular home demolitions. Eyewitnesses said the victim was well marked and was not a threat in any way. An American citizen who was with Rachel, Greg Schnabel, said, “Rachel was standing in front of the home. As the bulldozer approached she stood her ground. Rachel was wearing an orange fluorescent jacket. She was clearly visible to the bulldozer driver as well as to the soldiers in the tank. The bulldozer to push up the ground from beneath her feet. The pile of earth was mounding up and she tried her best to stay on top of it. As the ground continued to move Rachel went down on her knees. The bulldozer continued to move forward. Rachel began to become poured beneath the dirt. Still it did not stop. Finally, Rachel was beneath the bulldozer. The bulldozer did not even pick up its blade and ran over her.” and reflective strips”, he added. In addition, Ahmad an-Najjar, aged 43, was killed by IOF as he was shot in his home in Tal as-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah. Moreover, Muhammad Abdul Hadi, aged 18, was killed from IOF fire in the Al Amal neighborhood west of the town of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip. Three other Palestinians were also wounded.

In the early morning hours of Monday 17 March 2003, IOF invaded the an-Nusierat refugee camp in the middle of Gaza. They broke into the house of Muhammad as-Sa’afeen and blew it up with dynamite while Muhammad was in. Muhammad, aged 34, was killed, as a result. In addition, Israeli tanks opened fire on the area killing four other civilians including the 3-year old Ilham Zyad al-Attar, who died from three bullets in the heart and the leg and three young Palestinians. - Umar Tawfiq Abu Yusif, aged 17;

- Umar Hasan Darweesh, aged 17; and

- Saeed Husni at-Taweel, aged 16.

In a separate attack, at approximately 2 am the same day IOF invaded the Atatra area northwest of the town of Beit Lahia. Soldiers called on civilians aged between 16 and 45 to gather and forced them to sit into a big hole in the area. sources in the Ash-Shifa hospital in Gaza reported that two Palestinians were killed in this area; they are: Shadi Khrais, aged 20 and Ramiz al-Sdudi, aged 19 and both members of the Palestinian Marine Police forces. The incursion in Al Atatra continues and sounds of big explosions are heard as this release is being drafted.

In grave breaches to the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War, of 1949, IOF have deliberately been killing civilians and destroying private property when it was not necessary since the beginning of the current Intifada. The killing of Rachel Corey is only one evidence. Israel has killed 134 Palestinians and one American citizen; wounded hundreds of people; destroyed 845 homes; 174 commercial and industrial facilities; razed approximately 1,348 dunams of agricultural land and arrested hundreds of people since the beginning of this year.

The Center highlights the fact that Israel's escalation is in part allowed by the international community's tendency to address the Israeli occupation and Palestinian rights from a political perspective, which contravenes their obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 1949.

As such, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights is making an urgent appeal to the international community to quit its silence towards Israel’s crimes in the OPT, and to fulfill its moral and legal obligations under the international humanitarian law. The international intervention and protection of the civilian population is urgent. It is also the international community's responsibility to bring those who ordered and perpetrated these crime to justice.

Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) hurled stun grenades and tear gas canisters at a group of Palestinian and international pacifists holding a memorial service for Rachel Corrie, a US peace activist killed by an Israeli army bulldozer in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah on Sunday.

Several Israeli armored personnel carriers advanced in an attempt to disperse the group gathered to lay flowers at the spot where Corrie was crushed to death by a several-ton US-made bulldozer in one of Gaza’s most poverty-stricken refugee camps.

The 23-year-old from Olympia, Washington, who was to graduate later this year, was killed “deliberately”, witnesses say, as she was trying to stop a bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinians’ house.

She was part of a grass roots group known as the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), which try to prevent Israeli occupation troops from demolishing Palestinians’ houses and to help Palestinians harvest their olive crops under threat from armed Israeli settlers.

Joseph Smith, a 20-year-old student from Missouri, said about 100 people, including 30 ISM activists, had gathered to lay carnations, plant a tree and erect a small memorial when several armored personnel carrier and a bulldozer moved toward them.

“They started firing teargas and blowing smoke, then they fired sound grenades. After a while it got hectic so we sat down. Then the tank came over and shot in the air,” he told The Guardian.

“It scared a lot of Palestinians, especially the shooting made a lot of them run and the teargas freaked people out. But most of us stayed.”

Smith had previously refuted Israeli claims that the bulldozer’s driver did not see Corrie, who was wearing a florescent jacket at the time.

The activist, like several others who were with Corrie and witnessed her brutal death, said her slaying was “deliberate”.

“She was sitting in the path of the bulldozer. The bulldozer saw her and ran over her. She ended up completely underneath it,” Smith told AFP.

“He absolutely knew she was there,” he added.

Another colleague of Rachel’s confirmed what all ISM activists who also witnessed the scene: that she was murdered deliberately.

“She was standing in front of Dr. Samir Nasrallah’s house to protect it. The bulldozer was some 30 meters away from her. She was wearing a fluorescent orange jacket and was plainly visible,” said Greg Schnabel. “The bulldozer approached but she stood her ground. Then it pushed up a pile of dirt beneath her feet. She struggled to stay on top of the mound.

“At that point she was raised up to a level where she was probably looking the bulldozer driver in the eye,” Schnabel said, ruling out any possibility the bulldozer driver could have failed to see the young woman.

“Then she stepped back, the bulldozer continued and sand started covering her legs and was gradually buried up to her waist. We were shouting to the soldiers as she tried to pull herself out but she got sucked under the blade.

“The blade went over her body and the bulldozer stopped when she was completely underneath. Finally it withdrew, but without lifting the blade, dragging it over her once more,” said Schnabel, a 28-year-old American.

At the memorial service meanwhile, tensions rose further when a convoy of vehicles, including the bulldozer that killed Corrie, passed the area.

“I don’t think it was deliberate but it was pretty insensitive,” said Smith.

Ten people, including two Western activists, were treated at Rafah hospital for teargas inhalation, medics said.

That brings to four the foreign peace makers who -- peace activists who have been shot or killed or wounded in the last couple weeks. Eleven people were killed and over 50 were injured, 4 critically, in a suicide bombing at 19:15 on Saturday evening near a syngouge in the ultra-Orthodox Beit Yisrael neighborhood in the center of Jerusalem where people had gathered for a bar-mitzva celebration. The terrorist detonated the bomb next to a group of women waiting with their baby carriages for their husbands to leave the nearby synagogue. The victims: Shlomo Nehmad (40), his wife Gafnit (32), and their daughters Shiraz (7) and Liran (3), of Rishon Lezion; Shaul Nehmad (15), of Rishon Lezion; Lidor Ilan (12) and his sister Oriah (18 months), of Rishon Lezion; Tzofia Ya'arit Eliyahu (23) and her son Ya'akov Avraham (7 months), of Jerusalem. Avi Hazan, 37, of Moshav Adora, died of his injuries on Monday morning (Mar 4). Avraham Eliahu Nehmad, 17, of Rishon Lezion, died of his injuries on June 20. The Fatah Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade took responsibility for the attack.

It's actually ironic that Israel is acting more and more like Nazi Germany all the time. So sad since the Jewish people were the most abused by the Nazi regime.

This morning I heard that the two British homicide bombers presented themselves on arrival in Israel as "peace activists" and thus gained easy entry into Israel.

Anyone with eyes to see has already realized that the so-called "peace" groups, especially the "International Solidarity Movement" (ISM)are simply nothing more than collaborators and supporters of Arab terrorism. It is ridiculous to describe them as "peace" activists. Rather they incite, encourage and "apologize" for the violence most foul perpetrated against the Israeli people - defenceless men, women, old and, especially, the young - by these genocide bombers.

Not only do the "peace" groups consistently and aggressively harass and demonize our soldiers physically and verbally as they try to pursue their dangerous duties, such as flushing out murdererous terrorists before they reach their targets, they constantly slander and incite against Israel and the IDF on every possible forum and at every possible opportunity!

One can only wonder why on earth the government, and especially the IDF and internal security forces, not only allow those who are already endangering lives and security here in Israel, but continue to permit these dangerous pests' to enter the country.

As a peace activist myself (peace as in non-violence and non-aggression), your comments about these activists strike me as complete bunk. But I guess war-mongerers can only understand violence and so must project their violent natures on people of peace.

Israelis Fire on Parents of Injured British Peace Activist

The parents of a British peace activist who was shot in the head by Israeli troops came under fire themselves as they traveled to the spot where their son was critically injured.

Anthony and Jocelyn Hurndall were in a British diplomatic convoy entering the town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip when Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint fired a shot, which passed narrowly over the top of their vehicles.

The incident on Saturday afternoon took place despite the Israeli Army being given notice of the journey on at least three occasions – the last minutes before the convoy arrived.

The Foreign Office said last night that an explanation had been requested from the Israeli authorities for the warning shot, which was fired as the two armored Range Rovers entered the Abu Khouli checkpoint on the edge of Rafah at about 1pm.

Concerns were being raised yesterday over the conduct of Israeli soldiers in the south of the Gaza Strip. The incident in which the Hurndalls were fired at comes not only after their son was shot in Rafah, but after two other Westerners were killed in the city.

The Hurndalls, whose eldest son, Tom, is in a coma in an Israeli hospital after he was shot three weeks ago while trying to reach two Palestinian children, were being accompanied by Tom's youngest brother and the military and political attachés to the British embassy in Tel Aviv.

Mrs Hurndall, a schoolteacher from Tufnell Park, north London, said: "We were passing through the checkpoint very, very slowly when there was the sound of a bullet – it was like the sound of a large stone coming off the car.

"What struck me was the ludicrousness of the situation. Here we were, the parents and brother of someone who has been wounded by Israeli Defense Forces and who then fire a warning shot over our car for no apparent reason.

"It was a measure of the insanity that can take hold here." The single shot was fired from one of two watchtowers that stand above the checkpoint, causing the two British cars, identifiable by their white diplomatic plates, to come to an immediate halt.

Not until the Defense attaché, Colonel Tom Fitzalan-Howard, had stepped from the car with his hands in the air to talk with the soldiers inside the tower was the convoy able to proceed.

Notice that the cars would be passing through Abu Khouli was given at least three times – in the days before the trip, just as it was setting off and 10 minutes before it arrived.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "A single warning shot was fired as our staff were crossing the checkpoint. No-one was injured but the incident has been raised with the Israeli Defense Forces."

It is understood that an Israeli Army captain at the checkpoint later told members of the convoy that the shot had been fired because the vehicles had not stopped. There was no order to do so.

The journey by the Hurndall family to Rafah, where they met peace activists from the International Solidarity Movement who had been working with Tom, was made as they launched an appeal to raise £20,000 to bring him back to Britain by air ambulance.

Israeli Tourism Minister Asks US Christian Fundamentalists For Help Throwing Out "Road Map"

Israeli Tourism Minister Benny Elon has arrived in the U.S. to lobby Congress and Christian fundamentalists -- including Christian Coalition President Roberta Combs and former presidential candidate Gary Bauer and Pat Robertson -- against the US-backed "road map to peace," Democracy Now reports. The Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reports Elon is presenting a different plan that will call for the establishment of a Palestinian state, not in the Occupied Territories, but in Jordan. Ha'aretz reports that Elon said: "It's clear that Islam is on the way to disappearing. What we are now seeing across the Muslim world is not a powerful surge of faith but the dying embers of Islam. How will it disappear? Very simply. Within a few years a Christian crusade against Islam will be launched, which will be the major event of this millennium. Obviously, we will be up against quite a large problem when only the two great religions of Judaism and Christianity remain, but that's still a long way off." Trade publication O'Dwyer's PR Daily reports, The Zionist Organization of America has launched a national campaign with the help of New York-based 5W PR to oppose the "road map" plan. "5W CEO Ronn Torossian said the ZOA will run full-page ads across the country, meet with members of Congress and the Administration and host public programs with other pro-Israel Christian groups to fight its implementation," O'Dwyer's writes. April 5, Brian was shot in the head by an Israeli army tank from 50 meters distance. he was seen and clearly identified as an International peace activist. He was guilty of attempting to protect Palestinian children. The solider blindly followed the orders and fired a round of high speed bullets directly to his head.

April 11, Tom was shot in the head from the Israeli soldiers tower in Yebna, Rafah from 100 meters distance. He was guilty of attempting to move two little girls from the army line of fire. The solider blindly followed the orders and Brian is clinically dead.

This is what is how clearly identified International activists are being dealt with from the side of your "Defense Forces ". Have you ever asked how Palestinian civilians are treated? Did you ever wonder why there is a high toll of Palestinians killed and seriously hurt on daily basis?

Quit playing victim -- Palestinians are murdered by Israelis on a 3.5 to 1 ratio to Israelis being murdered by Palestinians.

And this doesn't take into account other brutalities, including destuction of homes and torture, which are Israeli speacialities.

NPR's coverage of Mideast deaths doesn't match reality

National Public Radio's coverage of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict has been the target of criticism from all sides, especially since the start of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000. One common complaint from both pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian critics is that NPR and other outlets downplay or ignore acts of violence by the “other side.” For example, a press release (8/12/01) from CAMERA, a conservative pro-Israel media watch group, accused NPR of skimming over the killing of a Jewish settler in a news report that focused on the funeral of a Palestinian Hamas activist killed by Israeli security forces. Similarly, Arab-American media critic Ali Abuminah (8/20/01) has criticized NPR for "cursory, inconsistent and wholly inadequate" coverage of Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

To examine these competing claims, FAIR studied NPR's coverage of Israeli-Palestinian violence, examining how often NPR reported fatal attacks on Israelis and Palestinians. The study looked at all NPR News coverage in the first six months of 2001 (1/1/01-6/30/01). During the six-month period studied, NPR reported the deaths of 62 Israelis and 51 Palestinians. While on the surface that may not appear to be hugely lopsided, during the same time period 77 Israelis and 148 Palestinians were killed in the conflict. That means there was an 81 percent likelihood that an Israeli death would be reported on NPR, but only a 34 percent likelihood that a Palestinian death would be.

Of the 30 Palestinian civilians under the age of 18 that were killed, six were reported on NPR--only 20 percent. By contrast, the network reported on 17 of the 19 Israeli minors who were killed, or 89 percent. While 61 percent of the young people killed in the region during the period studied were Palestinian, only 26 percent of those reported by NPR were. Apparently being a minor makes your death more newsworthy to NPR if you are Israeli, but less newsworthy if you are Palestinian.

An Israeli civilian victim was more likely to have his or her death reported on NPR (84 percent were covered) than a member of the Israeli security forces (69 percent). But Palestinians were far more likely to have their deaths reported if they were security personnel (72 percent) than if they were civilians (22 percent). Of the 112 Palestinian civilians killed in the Occupied Territories during the period studied, just 26 were reported on NPR. Of the 28 Israeli civilians killed in the Territories--mostly settlers--21 were reported on NPR.

These numbers suggest that NPR may attempt to pair reports of Israeli and Palestinian casualties in an effort to appear balanced. The network's anchors often introduce Mideast stories with a quick summary of recent developments, almost always mentioning one or two recent attacks on Palestinians and one or two against Israelis.

After seeing FAIR’s findings, NPR ombudsman Jeffrey Dvorkin commented that “numerical equivalence is not always a determination of journalistic fairness--in the Middle East or anywhere else.” He added that NPR's reporting on the Middle East “regularly takes care to mention the imbalance in death tolls” between Israelis and Palestinians.

But it is easy to see the potential appeal for NPR of reporting individual Israeli and Palestinian deaths in roughly equal numbers. The network is under attack from critics who accuse it of playing down violence by one side or exaggerating violence by the other. It would be useful for NPR to be able to respond to complaints by pointing to stories that report Israeli and Palestinian casualties in more or less equal proportions. That way NPR can claim it is simply “reporting both sides.”

While that kind of coverage may appease critics, it fails to give the audience an accurate impression of what's going on in the Middle East. According to the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem, a total of 576 Palestinians and 164 Israelis have been killed, a ratio of about 3.5 to 1. Given that disparity, the fact that NPR has reported the same numbers of Israeli as Palestinian deaths would seem to reflect fear of appearing anti-Israel more than it reflects reality.

I get angry every time I see a news story about the region, or when I read in the Associated Press how a soldier in the Israeli 'Defence' Force (read: a professionally trained and armed combatant) shot and killed a Palestinian child in "retaliation." This would be in retaliation for resisting the invasion and occupation of their land, or the destruction of their homes? Maybe it is retaliation for throwing stones. Maybe it is in retaliation for trying to kill some of the soldiers who are killing them. "I am killing you for resisting when I tried to kill you." Does this honestly make any sense to anyone?

As of yesterday, 620 Palestinians have been killed and over 15,000 have been wounded by Israelis. Oh, but Israelis have died too. Some civilians. Mostly soldiers. Soldiers are people with automatic weapons, tanks, helicopter gunships armed with guided missles. . . About 160 Israelis have died. Four Palestinians die for every Israeli. Most dead Palestinians are civilians, including women and children. Most dead Israelis are soldiers.

A four to one death ratio is not mutual violence. The Israelis aren't the ones under siege. You'd never know that, sitting here in the U.S. of A.

Human Rights Watch <http://www.hrw.org/press/2001/04/hebron041101.htm> has been keeping track of things. In April they wrote this (the emphasis is mine):

Israeli forces were responsible for the most extensive abuses, the report found, including excessive use of force against unarmed demonstrators, unlawful killings, indiscriminate and disproportionate fire in response to Palestinian attacks, and a consistent failure to protect Palestinians from attacks by Israeli settlers. Israel has restricted Palestinian movement with varying degrees of severity since March 1993, but the curfews and blockades now imposed, are the most extensive to date. These restrictions have had a devastating impact on all aspects of Palestinian life, including education, health, employment, and access to basic necessities. Jewish settlers in Hebron have also been responsible for frequent abuses against Palestinian civilians in Hebron. The Israeli authorities, especially the army, rarely intervene to stop or prevent settler attacks against Palestinians. Settlers in Hebron, who are not subject to the stringent curfew and closure restrictions, regularly beat Palestinians, attack their homes and businesses, and shoot and stone Palestinian drivers. Settlers have also targeted independent observers, humanitarian workers, diplomats and journalists during attacks that largely go unpunished.

The death toll, however, has been markedly disproportionate: in the last year and a half, 339 Israelis died while 1,168 Palestinians perished. That is, seven Palestinian lives were lost for every two Israelis killed. In the 10 days before the UN vote, the death ratio went up slightly, with some 50 Israelis killed and some 180 Palestinians dead.

This mortal increase is not an accident; it is, in fact, the cynical cornerstone of the policy of Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. He has said that Israel must inflict more casualties to force the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. The day after the UN vote, Israeli television said Sharon even favored intensifying the attacks, strictly as a negotiating gambit.

There is an extremely vocal group of pro-Israelis whose overall message is that Israel alone wants peace. Israel alone is suffering from civilian loss at the hands of terrorists. No one has come forward expressing any concern for Palestinians or mentioned that they are also suffering. Is it unreasonable to think Palestinians are human beings? That they also suffer? That they also dream of a time when their parents, their children, their people will live in peace?
There are two major groups of people here at Muhlenberg, those who are pro-Israel and those who don't care. It seems that as a campus and as a nation we are all too eager to call most Palestinians terrorists because a few have carried out suicide bombings against civilians. But whom are the Israelis killing? Palestinians have no country; therefore they have no organized army. Without two armies there is no war, thus you can just as easily make sweeping generalizations about Israelis being terrorists. Instead, we should be recognizing brutality committed by both sides; it is more helpful than accusations and justifications. Both sides share responsibility for killing innocent people.
We can't condemn the actions of one side without realizing that both sides are committing atrocities against civilians. Just because we do not hear about the deaths of Palestinians does not mean it is not happening. 941 Palestinians civilians and 290 Israelis civilians have died in Israel and the occupied territories between September 29, 2000 and April 17, 2002. This is a civilian death ratio of more than three Palestinians for every Israeli killed.**
Trying to justify occupation is as futile as trying to justify suicide bombings. Both leaders need to take actions to stop the acts of terror. Palestinians and Israelis are both humans, and lest we deny our own humanity, we must acknowledge this fact. As two different peoples, both Israelis and Palestinians need to be recognized as two sovereign peoples and to have a safe, secure state. The atmosphere on campus is not one that is conducive to peace in Israel. It is quite the opposite. It is this form of chauvinistic patriotism that is preventing the peace process. Instead of a rally behind Israel, or a petition in support for Israel, why can't there be a rally for peace or a peace petition? Why can't Seegers Union be free of literature branding one side as monsters who don't want peace and depicting the other side as a democracy with no faults?

Straw Under Fire for Ignoring Israeli Attacks on UK Nationals

The father of a British peace activist left in a coma by an Israeli army bullet has accused the Foreign Office of showing more concern at the killings of Israeli citizens than investigating Israeli responsibility for the shootings of Britons.

Anthony Hurndall said he would press for a meeting with the foreign secretary, Jack Straw, next week to express his dissatisfaction at the government's failure to apply serious pressure to Israel for an open investigation into the shooting of his son, Tom, 21, in Gaza and two other UK citizens by the Israeli army in recent months.

In November, Iain Hook, who was working for the UN, was killed in the Jenin refugee camp. Last week, a British cameraman, James Miller, was shot dead in the Gaza Strip.

In all three cases, the Israeli army has claimed the victims were in the presence of Palestinian gunmen or caught in crossfire, despite compelling evidence to the contrary.

Mr Hurndall said Britain was allowing an Israeli cover-up, despite having promised there would be a full inquiry into the shooting of his son. He contrasted the UK's statement of support for Israel after a British suicide bomber murdered three people in a Tel Aviv bar with its reaction to the shooting of UK nationals by Israeli soldiers.

"I have expressed to the embassy strongly my unease at the fact that immediately following the bombing at the bar in Tel Aviv and the killing of three Israelis, the British government jumped to give a statement of support for Israelis and to freeze funds and make arrests.

"In contrast, the almost passive reaction of the British government at the shooting of three of its nationals in Israel is very disturbing," he said.

Mr Hurndall, who is in Israel where his son is in hospital, also criticized the Israelis for lack of reciprocity. The army has refused to allow him to meet officers in command of the unit responsible for shooting his son.

"There's an enormous difference between how the British reacted to British citizens' involvement in killing Israelis and the complete lack of cooperation and a complete silence over what happened to British nationals here," he said.

Mr Hurndall is not alone in criticizing the Foreign Office's failure to vigorously pursue inquiries into the shooting of unarmed Britons.

Six months ago, Mr Straw and Clare Short, the international development secretary, promised a full investigation into the killing of Iain Hook. But the Israelis have since all but buried the inquiry and some of Mr Hook's British colleagues have accused the Foreign Office of being less concerned with exposing the circumstances of his killing than with not further straining relations with Israel at a time when Tony Blair is viewed with increasing suspicion for his promotion of Palestinian statehood.

UN workers complain that "trigger happy" Israeli troops are rarely called to account for the killing of civilians. Most victims are Palestinians, many of them children. But critics say that it is a reflection of a lack of accountability within the army that soldiers apparently believe they can shoot foreigners with impunity.

Last week, Britain also demanded a "full and transparent investigation" into the killing of James Miller, but colleagues are skeptical that the issue will be pressed.

The tone of the inquiry was quickly set by Israeli military officials who anonymously suggested Mr Miller was shot by a Palestinian or was caught in crossfire. The defense minister, General Saul Mofaz, told the Israeli cabinet that there had been "an exchange of fire in the area, and that it is still unclear as to how he was killed".

Numerous witnesses at the scene said the cameraman was killed by fire from an Israeli armored vehicle while carrying a white flag and wearing large and clear identification that he was a journalist.

Road map for legitimizing terror, By Israel Harel

If political gains are, by definition, the main fruit of victory in the battlefield, the road map proves the Palestinians - not Israel - have the upper hand in the war of terror that they initiated.

The attack in Tel Aviv - in the early morning hours after Holocaust Memorial Day and after Holocaust denier Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) was sworn in as the Palestinian Authority's first prime minister - is further proof that Israel does not have enough strength to put an end to that war.

Is it any wonder, then, that the United States is saying to itself: If Israel does not have the determination to put an end to the terror that is persistently striking it, its best friend must take the initiative to stop the bloodbath that Israel has been unable to halt - due to inhibitions that are characteristic of Jews, who are afraid to take the necessary steps, even when they would lead to the prevention of the continuous murder of Israeli citizens.

In order for the road map to have a chance, it must be pro-Palestinian because the initiative, even after 13 months of killing Jews, continues to be in the hands of the Palestinians.

The road map's main danger is not the harsh demands it makes on Israel but its very publication. The Arabs conclude, and rightly so, that America is declaring via the map that the terror against the Jews, unlike terror against the citizens of any other country, pays and is therefore permissible. The road map is also a personal victory for Yasser Arafat, the man who until recently seemed to have fallen, never to rise again.

It can be said that Arafat lost the battle but won the war. What's more, despite the fact that, in principle, his crimes against humanity, particularly in the past two and a half years, are no different from the crimes of Saddam Hussein and all the other war criminals who have butchered civilians, Arafat enjoys immunity like no other leader of mass terror. Perhaps it is because his victims are Jews.

The bulk of his immunity is granted by the Israeli government, which is obligated to act on behalf of the victims who were murdered by his criminal activities. This is because the government, due to characteristic Jewish victims' complexes ("political reasons"), does not dare charge Arafat with war crimes. If this is the nature of the victims' government, how can we complain against the rehabilitation provided by European governments whose representatives do not desist from making pilgrimages to visit him.

It is unfortunate that the Israel Defense Forces, unlike the American army in Iraq, did not manage to grant its government the unequivocal victory that would have enabled it to dictate political and security conditions to the Palestinians. Such a victory would also have restrained the international pressure and prevented the need, certainly from the American's point of view, for the road map.

This would also have created a political-psychological atmosphere that would have made it possible to try Arafat for war crimes, along with the band of terrorists who acted on his behalf, just as the Americans are about to try the war criminals in Iraq and just as the Allied forces, led by the Americans, tried the German war criminals 57 years ago.

We would also be able to drive home the awareness that the blood of Jewish terror victims is just as red as that of Saddam's victims and, believe it or not, as the blood of the Americans who were murdered in the terror attacks. Just imagine what America would do to Saddam, to bin Laden and their minions when they are caught.

Only after 19 months of rampant terror, following the attack at the Park Hotel in Netanya on Seder night (March 27, 2002), did Israel understand that it was the defensive doctrine that everyone praised, thanks to the reduced military casualty figures, that had practically given the terrorists free reign to organize and carry out the mass-fatality attacks.

Even during Operation Defensive Shield, despite its relative success, the job was not finished and the terrorists remained undaunted. The IDF, like the American army in the 1991 Gulf War, halted the war on the verge of victory, while most of the terror infrastructures, particularly the headquarters and the directive and political leaderships, continued to operate.

The United States gave us enough leeway to win this war. President George W. Bush even tried to neutralize Arafat, the patriarch of Arab terror. When we did not meet the performance test due to our inhibitions and our failings, and the people continued to bleed, the Americans had to come up with a plan that they, in their mistaken naivete, felt would bring an end to the bloodshed.

And when Israel is ordered to start with "gestures" toward the Palestinians, and later to bear the brunt of the price of implementing the plan, there is no doubt as to who has won the battle. It is no wonder, then, that Arafat's calendar is so full of meetings with foreign ministers. He has been perceived, and rightly so, as the one who has again come out as the political victor in another round of the never-ending terrorist war the Arabs are waging, and will continue to wage, against the existence of the Jewish Zionist state.

ISM Statement on Recent Bombings in Tel Aviv

ISRAELI FORCES RAID ISM OFFICE [Beit Sahour, Occupied Palestine] Israeli forces raided the ISM office this morning, confiscating equipment and material and snatching three women. At 12:30pm on Friday, May 9, approximately 20 military vehicles, army jeeps and a large armored personnel carrier (intended for many arrests) surrounded the ISM media office in Beit Sahour. Dozens of soldiers, border police and civilian police officers raided the ISM office, confiscating all computers, not only in the ISM office but in the nearby office of the Palestinian Centre for Rapprochement. Files, CD, and photos were all pillaged, while soldiers broke equipment and damaged office space. Israeli forces kidnapped Palestinian volunteer, Fida, American volunteer, Flo, and a worker with Human Rights Watch visiting the office. At the time of this writing, Fida has been released, and the internationals seem to have been moved to the office of the Israeli Ministry of Interior, most probably for deportation.

The Israeli government has declared an open war on international peace and human rights workers. Israeli forces are doing everything in their power to specifically prevent the nonviolent resistance to their military rule. The stepped-up harassment of internationals and journalists in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is nothing short of a further attempt to shield from the international community the brutality of daily Israeli military actions against the Palestinian people.

Remembering Seder Night

Seder night 2002 will be remembered as the Passover massacre -- the night the Palestinians went too far, sending a suicide bomber into a Seder at the Park Hotel in Netanyah, killing 29 and injuring dozens more. It was a blatant act of anti-Semitism, not anti-Zionism, it was directed against our Jewish soul, not the Jewish state.

The Palestinians are going to remember March 27, Seder night, as well. It is going to go down in their history books as the night they lost everything: their quest for independence, their institutions, their leadership, their hopes and their dreams. They are going to remember it as the night Israel, for the first time, went to war against the Palestinian people and especially their undisputed leader, Yasser Arafat.

The 1948 War of Independence was fought against the Arab world trying to nip embryonic Israel in the bud. The Sinai Campaign in 1956 was an ill-conceived adventure with the British and the French against the Egyptians over the Suez Canal. The 1967 Six-Day War was precipitated by the decision of Egypt’s Nasser to shut off access to Israel’s southern port of Eilat. Jordan and Syria, fatefully, later decided to join in, which resulted in Jordan losing the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and Syria forfeiting the Golan Heights. In the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Egypt and Syria, trying to regain territories they lost in 1967, attacked Israel. The 1982 War in Lebanon was a war against Palestinian terrorists, based in Lebanon, and their Syrian protectors.

This is different. This is the first war since the War of Independence that Israel is fighting for its survival; this is the first time Israel is facing its real enemy. Not the Arabs fighting on the Palestinians’ behalf, but our core enemy, the Palestinians themselves, under the leadership of Arafat. It is not a war in the distant sands of Sinai, but a war on our block, on our doorstep, over our homes. It is Israel’s true war of independence. If we lose this one, we lose our country.

There is much argument about Ehud Barak’s legacy. But there is no denying what he offered the Palestinians: 97 percent of the West Bank, a division of Jerusalem, 3 percent of Israel, and 30 billion dollars going to help resettle Palestinian refugees from 48. The 800,000 Jews refugees from the Arab countries wouldn't get a penny. Arafat refused and responded with a terrorist war.

Arafat went to Camp David with no intention of signing a final deal. Instead, he opted for killing Jews on Seder night and a year and a half of disgusting, cowardly and sick suicide-bomb attacks on babies, families, grandmothers. That is barbaric.

But the atrocity has served a cause. We, in Israel, now know with whom we are dealing. And we can see the issues with Kristallnacht clarity. Oslo, for Arafat, was a Trojan horse. No question about it. He proved that by turning Allenby Street in Tel Aviv and King George Avenue in Jerusalem into the battleground, by making targets of babies and old people. He is a threat to every household in this country, left or right, secular or religious, rich or poor, thief or righteous man.

ISRAEL ENTERS THIS WAR WELL PREPARED. IT CAN take care of threats from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestinians and whoever else decides to enter the fray simultaneously. Yes, we have our problems. The settlements are a nightmare, a huge historical mistake, a waste of billions of dollars and a bone in the throat of peace. And there are officers who are refusing to serve in the territories. Sharon is yesterday’s man, devoid of vision, and his cabinet is impotent. The economy is hurting and so are we, the people, those who never know where death will next show its face.

But it is not the army Arafat has chosen to attack. No, it is far easier for the Arabs to kill Jews celebrating Passover in Netanyah, or kids eating pizza on Jaffa Road or in Ganei Shomron.

Of all the enemies Israel has had to fight, of all the wars the country has been through, this is the most critical. It is also the most amorphous. The enemy is a coward who hides behind confused 18-year-old girls prepared to kill themselves together with shoppers in a supermarket.

Over the past two years, Palestinian terrorists have shown no compassion in the targets they choose. On the contrary, they seem to prefer their victims young and to include as many members of one family as possible. This is a war where the Arabs aim to destroy us. And thank God we have the strength to respond back. Their hate knows no limits. I can only hope we are victorious.

Yasser Arafat has more blood on his hands – this time Muslim blood.

About six weeks ago, one of Arafat's chief critics, Zohair Hamdan, the muktar of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Bahir, was gunned down by would-be assassins who fired nine rounds, hitting the Arab peace crusader with five.

When Jerusalem's Arab neighborhoods were scheduled to fall under Palestinian Authority control under the peace plan of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Hamdan protested, saying he would prefer to remain under Israeli sovereignty rather than Arafat's.

Courageously, Hamdan did something that is without precedent in the world of Arab politics. He launched a petition campaign, collecting more than 10,000 signatures of Jerusalem Arabs opposing Arafat's rule.

Understand the risks involved. Not only did Hamdan put his life on the line with that petition, every single one of those 10,000 signators did as well. That is the nature of the kind of no-opposition-tolerated "Palestinian politics" officially supported by the U.S. government in its continued embrace of Arafat.

Sure enough, immediately after the petition drive was completed, the Palestinian Authority began threatening Hamdan. His name was placed on the PA's wanted list. Hamdan was declared an enemy on Hezbollah television. His effigy was placed on an electric pole by Marwan Barghouti, a leader of Arafat's Fatah organization.

"I knew the risks, I took them into account, but I knew I was doing the right thing," Hamdan later told an interviewer from the Jerusalem Post.

Hamdan didn't back down a bit following the threats. He began visiting Israelis wounded in terrorist attacks and condemning violence on both sides. Last November, he led a delegation of Jerusalem muktars to Gilo to condemn the shooting in that Jewish neighborhood. Last January, he visited a 12-year-old Jewish boy wounded in a shooting attack in a Jerusalem suburb.

Then, at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 5, as Hamdan strolled in the courtyard of his home in southeastern Jerusalem, the nine shots rang out. Hit by five shots in the abdomen, shoulder and leg, Hamdan was able to call the police and ambulance and shout for help before collapsing.

Topping the suspect list in the attempted assassination is Arafat's own Fatah organization.

It's not the exception for Arafat to gun down political opponents in his own Muslim community. It's the rule. This is how Arafat has remained the undisputed "leader of the Palestinian people" without the benefit of an election in the last 35 years.

Meanwhile, Hamdan says the attack has only strengthened his resolve to fight for peace and co-existence with the Jews.

In December, he plans to create a Muslim, Christian and Jewish forum against violence. He wants to direct a joint message opposing more bloodshed to Arafat.

"Any little boy can see through Arafat's failed leadership," Hamdan says. "It is in Arafat's interest that the bloodshed continue, for without violence and bloodshed, he cannot survive."

Let me suggest that Hamdan, not Arafat, is the kind of man with whom peace negotiations can be conducted in good faith. Why doesn't the U.S. recognize this kind of enlightened opposition leadership? Why does Washington continue to place all of its bets on the broken-down horse named Arafat?

Hamdan says he believes Arafat's grasp on power is more tenuous than the West understands. He believes he will soon fall from power due to internal Palestinian strife. And he believes that will represent Arafat's just desserts.

"He has done nothing but bring bloodshed and death to his people," he says of Arafat. "The Palestinians have had enough of him, but they are just afraid."

It's time for U.S. officials to stop lending credibility to murderers like Arafat and start searching for alternative leadership among the Arabs in Israel. It's time for the U.S. to stop the unconscionable transfers of U.S. taxpayer wealth to this criminal – who, like some demented version of the Energizer bunny, just keeps on killing. It's time for the U.S. to make good on its pledge to fight terrorism wherever it is found. It's time to take that war right into Arafat's home turf.

Eyewitness: Israel Intensifies Attack on West Bank Observers

JENIN — At 12:30 this afternoon, more than 20 Israeli military vehicles drew up outside the offices of the International Solidarity Movement in Beit Sahour in the West Bank. Dozens of border guards, soldiers, and intelligence officers poured out of these vehicles and raided those offices. They took computers, discs, papers, every piece of data they could lay their hands on.

They also arrested the three women who were in the office at the time. One, a Palestinian, works for the Palestinian peace organization "Rapprochement" whose offices ISM shares. She has since been released. The other two women, both foreign nationals, are still being held pending their deportation. One volunteers for ISM while the other works for Human Rights Watch and is in Palestine doing research on home demolitions. She was visiting the ISM offices at the time of the raid.

In bare numbers, the loss to the organization is six desktop computers, three laptops and countless discs, an investment of $10,000 and more than two years work. They don’t expect to ever have the computers returned to them.

George, the Palestinian coordinator in Beit Sahour, told me the information is of no value to the Israelis, but of course the loss of the observers’ office will have a temporarily paralyzing effect on the organization. He affirmed that they will not stop working to observe and prevent army atrocities.

How is it that an organization with 60 people volunteering in the Occupied Territories has managed to invoke such fear in the Israeli Defense Forces, the fourth most powerful army in the world? What exactly is the IDF afraid of?

In less than two years of ISM’s presence here, the movement has welcomed over 1,000 observers from all over the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and elsewhere. Almost 20 percent of the volunteers have been Jewish. The average age is over 30 — many are over 50, and there have even been volunteers in their 70s. They come from all walks of life to support justice. Israelis, too, have worked with ISM and have faced the same levels of violence from soldiers and settlers. It is this disparate collection of concerned individuals who have caused such consternation in the corridors of power in Tel Aviv.

Daily news confirms the suspicion that Israeli authorities want no more

foreign witnesses to their actions in occupied Palestine. On Thursday a new policy went into effect that all foreigners entering the Gaza Strip must sign a waiver to absolve the Israeli army of any responsibility should they be killed or wounded while there, in effect giving the Israeli soldiers permission to shoot them. Three foreigners have been killed or critically injured by the Israeli army in the last two months.

Now if we wish to go there we have to sign a piece of paper allowing the army to kill us. The vast majority of foreigners entering the territories are U.N. or NGO relief workers, teachers and journalists. One wonders how long before this policy goes into effect for the West Bank, too, and how many of those relief workers and university teachers will decide to leave rather than give the army carte blanche to target them.

It seems difficult to escape the conclusion that the Israeli government is scared of nonviolent resistance, scared of witnesses to their crimes. Speaking to ISM representatives in Jenin and Beit Sahour Friday evening has been fascinating. Obviously downcast by the Israeli actions, they are still able to see the positive side of this development. Yousef, the Palestinian coordinator based in Jenin, is hopeful that this may result in a positive shift in Palestinian thinking toward the option of active nonviolent resistance. After all, if such a small organization can have such a powerful effect and cause such disquiet among high-ranking Israeli officials, it must be doing something right. "Why?" Yousef asked me this evening, "Why are they afraid of peaceful resistance? We are not fighting, we are just writing."

Sixty international observers and 10 Palestinian coordinators have scared the world’s fourth-most powerful army into taking draconian measures to try and stop them. It’s testimony to the effectiveness of their work. They will keep coming.

Almost all Palestinians support terrorism. Nine of ten Palestinians in the Gaza Strip support continuation of the "military [terrorist] operations", with eight of ten Palestinians in the "West Bank" supporting terrorism.33

Over 90% of Palestinian respondents say they oppose the adoption of a school curriculum that recognizes Israel and does not demand all Israel is given to the Palestinians. According to Khalil Shikaki, associate professor of political science and director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah, at his March 29, 2001, address to the Washington Institute's Policy Forum, the Palestinian people support terrorism. He reported that Palestinian support for suicide attacks is close to 70%. Furthermore, he reported that Palestinians do not distinguish between attacks on Israeli civilians and Israeli Army targets, regardless of their location inside Israel. However, more recent studies have reported, even worse, 3 of 4 Palestinians support suicide bombing.

The Grand Mufti of Egypt, appointed by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Muhammad Sayyed Tantawi, Sheik of Al-Azhar, not only said that suicide operations are a form of martyrdom, but, "called upon the Arabs and Muslims ‘to acquire nuclear weapons as an answer to the Israeli threat . . . ‘" In this context he states, "If Israel has nuclear weapons it will be the first to be defeated because it lives in a world in which there is no fear of death. We are not afraid . . . ."

As long as the Jewish infidels occupy a single inch of Israel, Jihad is a duty and therefore, suicide attacks are permissible, says Sheik Hamed Al-Bitawi, head of the Palestinian Islamic Scholars Association.

"There are no [Israeli] civilians," says Dr. Muhammad Kamal Al-Din Al-Imam, a Lecture on Islamic law at the Alexandria Law Faculty.

Dr. Muhammad Hassan Abd Al-Khaleq says, "Anyone who forbids these operations does not know anything about these Jews. How can anyone forbid the killing of people who believe that stealing and killing is part of their false faith? The Jews have interpreted the Commandment 'Thou shall not kill' as 'Thou shall not kill a Jew'... Many cases of inhuman acts of murder carried out by them for religious motives have been registered in history, like the murder of a Christian priest and the collecting of his blood in order to make of it Passover matzah. This happened at the beginning of the nineteenth-century in Damascus and has been proven to be true..."

"The [Israeli] rats who came from the US, Europe, and Russia will flee," and "whoever blows himself . . . is the highest rank of Martyrdom. . . . I advise the US...: Do not forget what happened to the Marines in Lebanon, nor the bombing of the USS Cole destroyer in Yemen," says Egypt’s Al-Akhbar weekly.

"The Palestinians are fighting against the Zionists with a lethal weapon - the weapon of the multi-birthing woman," says Hamad Al-Majid, for the Al-Sharq Al-Awsat weekly.

On the topic of child martyrs, The Mufti of Jerusalem, appointed by Yasser Arafat, says, "The younger the martyr, the greater and the more I respect him." And, even if an agreement is signed, "Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who are like them!

This year, a day before the international observance of Holocaust Remembrance, columnist Ahmad Ragab, writing in that same newspaper said, ‘Thanks to Hitler, [of] blessed memory, who, on behalf of the Palestinians revenged in advance against the most vile criminals on the face of the earth. Although we do have a complaint against him, for his revenge on them was not enough.’ Mr. Chairman, we are not talking about a neo-Nazi publication. This is the semi-official government newspaper of Egypt, whose editor is appointed by President Mubarak.

This antisemitism is also expressed by Arab leaders. For example, just a few months ago, it was announced in Damascus by Syrian Defense Minister, General Mustafa Tlass, that his book, The Matzah of Zion, an infamous antisemitic canard and blood libel, was being made into a movie for worldwide distribution. Tlass’ book describes how the Jews of 1840 Damascus allegedly murdered a Catholic priest, Father Toma, and drained his blood in order to use it to bake matzoh to fulfill a Jewish ritual.

At their press conference in Damascus, Tlass and Egyptian producer, Munir Radhi, remarked that The Matzah of Zion would be the Arab world’s answer to Schindler’s List [source MEMRI]. Isn’t it ironic that there is total silence regarding this initiative at the United Nations? After all, Syria is about to be seated as a non-permanent member on the United Nations Security Council.

I can assure you that if a similar announcement had been made by the Defense Ministers of Germany or Poland, it would make the front page of every newspaper in the world. But because it occurred in the Middle East, the world community paid no attention

Two Years On--Still Exploiting Children

The Palestinian Authority continues to exploit children in its conflict against Israel. In this special report, a renowned human rights activist presents a detailed review of one of the world's most disturbing examples of mass child abuse.
Introduction
From the outset of the current Palestinian intifada two years ago, children and teenagers have assumed an integral role. Knowing that Israeli soldiers are ordered not to shoot live ammunition at children, Palestinian snipers hide among youngsters or use them as shields. Three recent developments are also notable:

Yasser Arafat's deputy, Abu Mazen, admitted to a Kuwaiti newspaper in June that Palestinian children have been paid 5 shekels (about $1) for every pipe bomb they throw.
Children have been increasingly mobilized during 2002 for homicide attacks; their parents have received cash payments from the Palestinian Authority, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
The attempt at a cover-up: The Palestinian Journalists' Association has warned members that they would be punished if they photographed armed children.

Sacrificing Children
On March 30, 2002, a 16-year-old Palestinian girl named Ayat Akhras walked into a Jerusalem supermarket and detonated a bomb concealed under her clothing, killing two Israelis and wounding 22 others. On April 23, three teenagers - Anwar Hamduna, Yusef Zakut, and Abu Nada - from Gaza, attempted to crawl under the perimeter fence and attack the residents of the nearby Jewish community of Netzarim, only to be shot dead by guards.

For over a month, Palestinian children as young as ten barricaded themselves in Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity, alongside Palestinian gunmen. In May, a 16-year-old Palestinian boy was arrested in a taxi near Jenin with a suicide bomb on his body. On June 13, 2002, a 15-year-old Palestinian girl, arrested for throwing a firebomb at IDF soldiers, admitted during interrogation that she had previously been recruited as a suicide terrorist. On July 9, 2002, Israeli security forces arrested another 15-year-old Palestinian girl who admitted to having agreed to carry out a suicide1 attack in Israel.

These are some of the latest developments in the intifada, an unprecedented wave of ongoing attacks that has roiled the region for two years. From the outset, Palestinian children and teenagers have assumed an integral role.

Although some elements in Palestinian society oppose using children, or at least their children, in "martyrdom" operations, these voices remain isolated. Just as in previous violent episodes, many Palestinians misuse their children in various ways. Early in the current intifada, children acted as decoys, burning tires and shooting slingshots to attract the television cameras while making it harder for the world to identify the gunmen lying in ambush. Knowing that Israeli soldiers are ordered not to shoot live ammunition at children, Palestinian snipers hide among groups of youngsters, on rooftops or in alleys, often using kids as shields when aiming at exposed IDF soldiers.

Palestinian children receive 5 shekels [approximately $1] in order to throw rocks at IDF soldiers."2 Also, IDF soldiers who participated in the Defensive Shield operation reported that children were sometimes left behind to trigger booby-traps that terrorists set for troops.

But why are these young people willing to throw away their lives? Who led them to believe that assuming dangerous roles in the violence will result in improving their personal, family, and political situation? How did the celebration of violence against Israelis become so deeply ingrained in Palestinian culture? What cause, no matter how deeply held, can motivate a society to sacrifice its children, its future?

A Family's Badge of Pride
The pressure to sacrifice oneself in the intifada often originates at home. Stoked by Arafat's speeches lauding the role of children in the struggle and the importance of martyrdom, many Palestinian parents have come to view the role of youth in the uprising as useful and, indeed, honorable. Thus, after Ahmat Omar Abu Selmia, a 15-year-old, was killed on his way to attack the Israeli community of Dugit, his father celebrated his "martyrdom" at a street festival attended by about 200 men. Martyrs - people who die for the sake of jihad (holy war) and Islam - are held in such high regard by the Palestinian people that at times parents accept the death of their children as a badge of pride. Parents of toddlers proudly recount their little children saying they want to become martyrs, and a father of a 13-year-old said, "I pray that God will choose him" to be a martyr. One mother told a journalist from the (London) Times, "I am happy that he [her 13-year-old son] has been martyred. I will sacrifice all my sons and daughters (12 in all) to Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem." A photograph in the Jerusalem Post on February 26, 2002, showed Palestinian fathers teaching a group of toddlers and young children to properly hold assault rifles while trampling on American and Israeli flags.

Another reason Palestinian parents allow and even encourage their children to get involved is the financial incentive offered to families of "martyrs." Thus, the Palestinian Authority furnishes a cash payment - $2,000 per child killed and $300 per child wounded.3 Saudi Arabia announced that it had pledged $250 million as its first contribution to a billion-dollar fund aimed at supporting the families of Palestinian martyrs.

In addition, the Arab Liberation Front, a Palestinian group loyal to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, pays generous bounties to the injured and the families of the dead according to the following sliding scale: $500 for a wound; $1,000 for disability; $10,000 to the family of each martyr; and $25,000 to the family of every martyr suicide bomber - lavish sums, given the chronic unemployment and poverty of the majority of the Palestinian residents of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

A Society that Sanctifies Death
Violent death is sanctified throughout the Palestinian areas. The streets are plastered with posters glorifying the exploits of individual suicide bombers. Children trade martyr cards, purchased at their local shops, instead of pokemon or baseball cards, and necklaces with pictures of martyrs are also very popular. One favorite wall slogan reads: "Beware of death by natural causes.

Suicide bombing is considered a source of neighborhood pride, as streets are named after the perpetrators of these atrocities. There is even a band named "The Martyrs," whose lyrics espouse the virtues of "sacrificing yourself for Allah." Under these cultural influences, many children readily admit that they want to become suicide bombers. Some draw pictures and fantasize about the day when they achieve their goal. The young are taught that, as suicide bombers, they will ascend to a paradise of luxury staffed by 72 virgins waiting to gratify the martyrs as they arrive. An American psychiatrist with 22 years of experience studying and treating suicidal patients stresses that suicide bombers - both children and adults - are "tools used by terrorist leaders" with "a whole culture encouraging [them] to die."6

The Palestinian Authority - the Palestinian entity established, empowered, funded, and armed to carry out the Oslo peace process - uses diverse vehicles to incite the youth to participate in anti-Israeli street violence and even outright terrorism. Incitement in Palestinian society is both authoritative and omnipresent. Palestinian columnist Ashraf Al-Arjami agrees that the patriotism of Palestinian youth is being exploited, and the schools and mosques under Palestinian control are influencing the children. The campaign to incite children emanates straight from the top of the Palestinian Authority. Documents signed with the emblem of the Palestinian Authority and Yasser Arafat's office feature inciting words referring to Israelis as "land plunderers" and "creators of international terror." Arafat himself refers to the children as "the generals of the stones," playing to their pride and young egos.

In a Palestinian Authority-run summer camp, a New York Times reporter observed campers staging the kidnapping of Israeli leaders, stripping and assembling Kalashnikov assault rifles, and learning techniques for ambushes. One Palestinian Authority television program clip, aimed at young viewers, features a boy killed in Gaza arriving in heaven where there are beaches, waterfalls, and a Ferris wheel. He is saying, "I am not waving goodbye, I am waving to tell you to follow in my footsteps." On the accompanying soundtrack a song plays, "How pleasant is the smell of martyrs, how pleasant the smell of land, the land enriched by the blood, the blood pouring out of a fresh body." In an October 2001 interview in a Palestinian Authority-controlled newspaper, Youssef Jamah, the Palestinian Minister of Holy Sites, stated on Egyptian television, "The suicide bombings are a legitimate means through which the Palestinians fight the enemy....The attacks are the command of Allah." Although some Islamic authorities oppose suicide bombing, Sheik 'Ikrimi Sabri, the Palestinian Authority-appointed mufti of Jerusalem, said, "There is no doubt that a child [martyr] suggests that the new generation will carry on the mission with determination. The younger the martyr - the greater and the more I respect him." Not surprisingly, senior Palestinian Authority officials attend the funerals of the "martyrs."

Educating the "Martyrs of Tomorrow"
Even in the Palestinian Authority's public schools, incitement to violence plays a major role. Needless to say, interest in reconciliation with Israel is notably absent. The Palestinian Authority's Deputy Minister of Education, Naim Abu Humus, called on school administrators to dedicate the first class to praying for the souls of those killed during the intifada, saying, "Today we glorify Al-Aqsa and Palestine, and remember the Palestinian martyrs." Signs on the walls of kindergartens proclaim their students as "the shaheeds [martyrs] of tomorrow," and elementary school teachers and principals commend their young students for wanting to "tear their [Zionists'] bodies into little pieces and cause them more pain than they will ever know." Posters in university classrooms proudly remind the world that the Palestinian cause is armed with "human bombs." Sheik Hassan Yosef, a leading Hamas member, summarized this process of incitement by saying, "we like to grow them from kindergarten through college." Palestinian Brig. Gen. Mahmoud M. Abu Marzoug reminded a group of 10th grade girls in Gaza City that "as a martyr, you will be alive in Heaven." After the address, a group of these girls lined up to assure a Washington Post reporter that they would be happy to carry out suicide bombings or other actions ending in their deaths.

These factors cumulatively explain why young Palestinians are so excited at the prospect of "martyrdom." "When I become a martyr, give out Kannafa [sweet cake]," one 14-year-old boy was reported to have told his friends in the days prior to his death in the riots. A 12-year-old boy who died in the fighting was reported to have so yearned for martyrdom that he wrote his own death announcements on the walls of his home. An injured 13-year-old boy was reported as having said, "My goal is not to be injured, but rather something higher - martyrdom." A 13-year-old girl from Egypt tried to sneak into Gaza in order to "join the Palestinian children in anything, even throwing stones." A week earlier, a 12-year-old boy was stopped at the Israeli border after attempting the same thing.

But why does the Palestinian Authority encourage Palestinian children to become involved in this violence? Clearly, sympathy for the Palestinian cause has been generated as Western media reports have often highlighted instances in which Palestinian children have been killed or injured by Israeli troops or policemen. These knee-jerk reports have generated criticism of Israeli policies, but few in the Western world have thought through the chaos they see on the television news to consider whose interests are served by the casualties.

Shoved into the Front Lines
There seems to be no end to the list of Palestinian children killed after being shoved into the front lines of the conflict by the Palestinian leadership. In February 2002, Nora Shalhoob, a 16-year-old Palestinian girl, was killed while charging a group of Israeli soldiers at a military checkpoint with a knife in her hand. Andaleeb Taqataqah was only 17 when she was recruited by a terror squad and sent to her death in a suicide attack on a crowded Jerusalem market on April 12, 2002. As a result of the increasing frequency of such attacks, two points have become clear. The first is that Palestinian children and teenagers are lining up to throw their lives away, and the second is that there is an across-the-board effort by Palestinian leaders, parents, clerics, and educators to turn youthful energy into deadly violence.

Recently, six children armed with M-16 and Kalashnikov rifles took part in a pro-Iraqi rally in the Gaza Strip. Exposed to such shocking images, including those of Palestinian toddlers wearing mock suicide bomber's vests, Western public opinion began to shift. Revulsion increasingly replaced curiosity. But rather than fulfill its professional obligation to publicize newsworthy and controversial issues, in August 2002 the Palestinian Journalists' Association warned its members that it would punish any journalist or photographer who took photographs of armed or masked Palestinian children. This intimidating message, which was faxed to journalists and news agencies, stated that Palestinian journalists employed by foreign news agencies are even responsible for making sure their colleagues act according to the warning. The association further added that it would not defend any journalists that do not implement the new policy, should the Palestinian Authority decide to punish them.

Blatant child abuse of this kind, and efforts to cover it up, would not be tolerated anywhere else in the civilized world. Where are the children's welfare advocates to condemn the practices that poison the minds and imperil the bodies of young Palestinians?

Debka has learned, Hamas retains no more than four senior operations in West bank towns, and Jihad Islami only one. DEBKAfile has discovered the identity of the senior Hamas mastermind on the West Bank: Ahmed Saad of Nablus.

When Abbas and Dahlan were asked how the two Islamic groups were able to carry out daily strikes with so little manpower, they explained that when they wanted to stage an attack, they simply hired suicide hit teams from Arafat’s Fatah, Tanzim or al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades for an agreed fee.

In other words, the only functioning terrorist infrastructure on the West Bank belongs to Yasser Arafat, which in addition to carrying out its own operations, also subcontracts for the two Islamic groups.

The two Palestinian officials shared four more pieces of information with the American emissaries:

A. A truce on similar lines had been tentatively agreed with the Hamas and Jihad Islami in the Gaza Strip. It lacked a signature from the top rank. In Cairo, Abu Mazen was to meet Ramadan Shalah, the senior Hamas executive who had come especially from Damascus, and negotiate final terms. This might not be possible before the Aqaba summit.

B. Announcement of a Palestinian ceasefire might therefore not be released at Aqaba but held back for later.

C. Aside from Arafat’s organizations which they did not approach, Abu Mazen and Dahlan had not come to a ceasefire agreement with the terrorist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestinian, whose leader Ahmed Saadat is confined to Jericho for instigating the assassination of the Israeli tourist minister Rehavam Zeevi two years ago. Negotiations with Saadat’s men continue.

D. All the Palestinian squad leaders laid great stress on the release of terrorists held prisoner and detained by Israel, failing which they would lay themselves open to the charge of deserting their comrades. Abu Mazen initially demanded across-the-board- releases of Palestinian prisoners, whatever the charges against them. The Americans set limits, reluctant to attach themselves to a process that allowed terrorist-killers “with Israeli blood on their hands” to go free.

Two days before the Aqaba summit, the deal taking shape provides for the release of between 1,200 and 1,300 under-18 Palestinian prisoners and detainees plus 700-800 over 55s, leaving the hard core aged 18-55 in confinement.

As items of the pre-summit US-Palestinian-Israeli agenda were being ticked off, Yasser Arafat dropped his bombshell.

To mark Palestinian Children’s Day on June 1, he invited an audience of tots aged 3 to 5 to his headquarters in Ramallah. Addressing them solemnly as Palestinian President, he declared:

”Remember, each martyr wins the mercy of Allah!” He went on to intone the slogan that so often in the past signaled horrendous outbreaks of Palestinian suicidal homicides in Jerusalem’s streets, cafes, buses and campuses: “A martyr who falls in Jerusalem, is worth 40 martyrs who die anywhere else!”

Hearing that declaration, Israeli security forces braced themselves for the next onslaught of terror.

DEBKAfile readers know by now that Arafat’s utterances are carefully rehearsed, never haphazard or spontaneous. His followers are familiar with his almost ritualistic pronouncements and the directives implicit in each one. This time, he made sure every Palestinian was exposed to his speech to the children by having it rerun all day over Palestinian TV broadcasting from Ramallah, over and over again. It was also a warning to President Bush, ahead of the two summit conferences he leads this week - with Arab rulers Tuesday at Sharm al-Sheikh – notably Crown Prince Abdullah, Mubarak, Jordan’s King Abdullah and the three cornered meeting in Aqaba – that creating a Palestinian security-intelligence force to fight the “martyrs” would be futile; he, Arafat, had raised generation after generation of martyrs from the time they could walk to continue the battle for Jerusalem.

So what are we talking about? officials from the Israeli prime minister’s office in Jerusalem asked the two American envoys: A ceasefire or a fresh wave of terror?

DEBKAfile’s political analysts strongly doubt that the Sharon government, already weakened by unpopular economic austerity measures, will be strong enough to carry these two demands past popular opinion or even survive the opposition from its own ministers.

10 suicide attacks foiled since Aqaba Summit

Security forces have arrested 10 Palestinians suspected of plotting suicide bombings since the three-way Aqaba Summit a week ago, media reports said Wednesday.

One of the suspects is a 16-year-old from the West Bank town of Tulkarm, who was destined to carry out an attack in Netanya for Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Abbas and Arafat ordered this would be massacre.

Police reveal foiled J'lem suicide bomb attempt

The Shin Bet security agency and police revealed Wednesday that they had recently arrested an east Jerusalem man suspected of plotting a suicide bombing in Jerusalem.

Jamil Farun, 30, of the Azariyeh neigbhorhood, was recruited by a militia linked to Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmud Abbas' Fatah movement, and was a security guard for the Palestinian parliament speaker.

Is Judaism Becoming Irrelevant?

In the introduction to "Nothing Sacred: The Truth about Judaism," author Doug Rushkoff explains when the early '90s Internet revolution turned into the greed-driven, dot-com rush of the late '90s, he found himself in an intellectual bind. "How could I still promote the empowering side of interactive media without pumping up a Ponzi scheme that was destined for casualties?" he writes. His answer was to turn to Judaism, not only his cultural and spiritual roots, but also what he describes as the original religion of media literacy.

Rushkoff, a self-described lapsed Jew, spent two years getting literate in Judaism by traveling around the country attending synagogues, reading the Torah and talking with Jews across the cultural and political spectrum. The result is a book in which he places Judaism within a modern context for his generation. He also argues that the religion is on the brink of becoming irrelevant because its most core value of open-ended inquiry has been obscured by an obsession with self-preservation and idolatry.

Last week, the United Jewish Appeal center in New York pulled an interview with Rushkoff off the organization's Web site, arguing that his questions about Israel were too controversial. Recently, I sat down with Rushkoff in the East Village of Manhattan to discuss how the incident has proved his point about the religion's mainstream, the marketing of so-called "Jewish chic" to 20- and 30-somethings, and what Judaism at its core means to him today.

RLH: What did you question about Israel that upset the UJA?

I'm very gentle. I preface any discussion about Israel by saying that I don't want anyone to think that I don't think Israel should be there. I do believe that Israel should there and I love Israel, but now I want to talk about whether or not we can even talk about Israel. I'm not saying we shouldn't support Israel using Torah, but what does it do to our relationship with Torah? What does it do to our relationship to God when we say God invented the Nation State? Should we use the story of Exodus to support our claim to this Nation State or does it hurt our relationship to the story of Exodus if we're using Torah to prove that we own a piece of land? Did God come up with the Nation State or was it the Treaty of Versailles?

This experience with the UJA ties into your whole criticism about mainstream Judaism.

Judaism as I see it is the invention of conversation and a way of conversing about typical things. What are we here for? How do we deal with one another? I think it's become too concretized. I think Jews have idols now and I think Israel has become an idol. That's a problem for Judaism and it's a problem for Israel. If we want a living nation, we have to find ways to support and nourish the living nation. The worst thing for the preservation of the religion and the preservation of that nation is this idolatrous relationship to Torah and to Israel.

What's your Jewish background?

I grew up in Queens, Larchmont and Scarsdale. My family was classical Reform. I'm circumcised. I got Bar Mitvahed. We did Passover. We did Hanukkah. Unfortunately, the way Reform Judaism works is that you're done with Jewish education after your Bar Mitzvah, and then you don't really come back to it until you're married and have a kid. Because I'm a thinker and writer, I've thought about spirituality and religion throughout and my work has been informed by a true Jewish outlook which is iconoclastic, towards literacy and intellectual inquiry.

Why do you think that a lot of lapsed Jews have turned away from Judaism?

It's become very closed off, racist and ethnocentric. Fundamentalists are now running this religion. Most people like me haven't tried to do anything officially Jewish because we've thrown out the baby with the bathwater. We say the fundamentalists are in charge. The last place you're going to have an intelligent conversation about God or religion or Torah or Israel is in a Jewish organization because they're too afraid to talk about it.

So then what is Judaism to you now?

Iconoclasm, monotheism and social justice. It's the same thing it was. The only difference between before I wrote the book and now, is that I think of synagogue as more of an impediment to the practice of Judaism.

Judaism was not meant to be a religion. It was meant to be an ongoing process by which we wean ourselves from religion. Judaism is a way of getting God out of the way so that we take care of each other. Judaism is of the contention that human beings can be adults. That we don't have to be children in front of our God, but that we can be responsible. The reason that Judaism was so radical and illegal in the beginning was because the notion that human beings make a difference was against their religion. Gods were responsible for everything. You had to worship your God and then you got rain or you got sun or you got crops. The Israelites said if there is God then Gods are important but human beings are actually part of the equation. That's not what Judaism is about right now.

What is practicing Judaism, if you're not going to temple?

Last night I sat with 20 Jews around a table and we argued the weekly Parsha, the section of Torah that came up that week. We sat in the ground floor of the New York University Center for Jewish Life. Judaism is happening at this table as we argue about it. I think it has to happen in homes. Real Judaism will be an underground phenomenon because Jewish institutions have more to fear from Judaism now then they have to gain, which is sad.

You also argue that mainstream Jewish organization's rejection of interfaith marriage is a bad thing for Judaism.

The fact that fighting assimilation and fighting intermarriage is at the top of the agenda of the money givers of the institution of Judaism is a problem. I believe that intermarriage should be looked at more intelligently. Judaism is not a race. Judaism is a people who subscribe to an idea. When people talk about losing the purity of the Jewish gene, it's Hitler talk. The inquisitioners are the ones who talked about a Jewish race. Instead of warning people in various forms of media that non-Jews are dirty and won't raise your children right and you shouldn't go on dates with them, we should look instead at how we could be more influential in getting intermarried couples to incorporate Judaism into their lives.

When we are an unwelcoming, ethnocentric, closed-minded place, why would any intermarried couple want to be a part of it? I'm begging to be a part of it. I'm begging to set a place at the table for those of us who want have a conversation about whether God is a creature that gave us Israel as a piece of land or whether there are better ways to support our connection to Israel. That's not even up for discussion.

What do you think of something like Heeb magazine, which is trying to revive Judaism for young people?

I've got problems with that mode of Jewish self-expression. It's funded and appreciated by the same people who are censoring me. It's seen as the last-ditch attempt to bring in 20-somethings by any means necessary. It's not creating conversations. It's making Judaism cool and hip like MTV, but it's like Al Jolson in blackface. We're appropriating hip hop culture – the matzah on the turntable – in order to look cool. By trying to make Judaism look hip and trendy is communicating that we don't believe that Judaism is intrinsically cool.

Which is where the idea of what you're calling "Open Source Judaism" comes from, right?

Anyone who wants to do Judaism should have access to Judaism. Judaism is not just something that you do, it's something you enact. You've got to learn the code in order to alter it. The angry Orthodox reviewers have this picture of me as Jack Horner in a corner with a Matzah ball on my spoon. This book calls for an amount of learning that most Jews wouldn't want to do. They think that is uneducated because I can do yoga and call it Judaism.

Speaking of that, why do you think so many so-called lapsed Jews turn to Buddhism and other spiritualities, like yoga?

Most young intelligent Jews are turning to Buddhism and Hinduism because Judaism is no longer offering them a path of inquiry. Judaism is now offering idols. The idol of temple. The idol of Israel. I'm not saying Israel should be destroyed. I'm not saying that Jews should be killed. What I'm saying is that Jews are turning away from Judaism because in the expression of centralized Judaism all they see is Zionism and temple. They want a spiritual path which involves the engagement of the intelligent individual.

Explain your transition from looking at media culture to Judaism.

Judaism is a religion about media literacy. The way you get in is that you have a Bar Mitzvah, which is a demonstration that you can read and think intelligently about it. Judaism has been dedicated to transparency, which is another big issue in the media space. It has to be as easy to express yourself as it is to receive the expressions of someone else. I got interested in media because of interactivity. The 20-year hegemony of a top-down media is now being over turned and it's now becoming a conversation space where we are smashing our sacred cows and people are becoming intelligent and literate.

That is the same thing that happened in the Exodus story, where a hand-me-down pre-existing religion is transformed into Judaism, where we all argue around a table about what God is and what we are going to believe? The transition from television to Usenet is the transition from the idolatrous religions to rabbinic arguing Judaism. I felt like what I had been doing in media, the Internet and children's education, is applying Judaism. Then I looked back at Judaism and thought Judaism needs it more than any of these fields.

So what has this book taught you about your Jewish path?

I am going to abandon organized Judaism in America because I'm finding it much more likely to meet people to engage with about Judaism away from that. I'm probably going to move toward the Interfaith movement in my own spiritual life. The only difference between me when I wrote the book and me now is I no longer believe that the safeguards built into Judaism to prevent idol worship and ethnocentrism are powerful enough to prevent it. I see Judaism driving itself off a cliff.

The houses, and property that was destroyed had been owned by those Palestinians killed, or forced to flee, by the barbaric tactics of the Jews. These destroyed towns and villages were rebuilt (with new Jewish names) as Jewish only towns and villages. The Palestinians who had been forced to leave were not allowed back. They were not even allowed back into the Jewish state, let alone back to their (now destroyed) towns and villages.

Many Christians support Israel, but they should realize that before the establishment of the Jewish state, Palestine was about 12% Christian (Israel is now about 2% Christian). They should also remember that the Palestinian Christians had lived in the area since about 300 AD (when Palestine was predominantly Christian) and that they shared the land with Moslems from about 700 AD to the creation of Israel, when they were kicked out along with the Moslems (by the Jews).

And now lets examine the claim that the Jews bought all the land and thus "now owned it" and were thus "entitled" to ethnically cleanse Palestine.

IN 1880 THE JEWS OWNED APPROXIMATELY 0% OF THE LAND.

And even this 6% (more precisely 6.66%) of the land is contested. Much of the land was bought from people who had registered the land in their name, but who did not in any sense own the land, but that is another story. The point is that owning 6% of the land (about 20% of the farmland) does not entitle a minority to claim the entire land (even if they claim that some god gave it to them).

It was never a Pal land to begin with, so your question is invalid. The Palestinians never governed or controlled any land before 1993. What more can be said other than what you already have said for years and spoken to many groups, what more can be said than what Ed Said and Jim Abourzek and others have said for many years.
But I think there's a certain approach that needs to be punctuated, and that is the following:
Criticism of Israeli actions in Palestinian areas is often chilled by the phrase anti-Semitism. When that word was used during and after World War II, it had a gravity following the Jewish Holocaust. It not only had a gravity, it elicited sympathy, support, grief. The increasingly cavalier use of the term anti-Semitism increasingly focused on criticism of the present government of Israel, cheapens that term. Turns it into a censorious device. Turns it into the very suppression of dissent, which in any democratic society is most often the mother of future assent. It stifles people in our government, in our business world, at our universities. And it becomes not just what it wasÑgrief, awe, sympathy. It's increasingly becoming an object through its reckless use of subdued derision. It's also broadly used where it shouldn't be used. Arabs are Semites. Jews who came from the Middle East are Semites.
It's time to call the vicious discrimination when it occurs against Arab Americans, the other anti-Semitism. You only have to read the writings of Peace Now, of Rabbis for Justice, of the human rights group Beth Salem, which has documented atrocities against the Palestinians in a highly specific and authentic manner. All honor to them. They document atrocities on all sides.
But they're taking a lot of heat for documenting the far greater civilian casualties and children casualties on the Palestinian side. This very idea of debating equivalence of violence is anathema. Nonviolence should always be the top priority in resolving disputes. Once one or both sides devolves into violence, all their violence can be rationalized. All their violence.
We rationalized Hiroshima and Nagasaki, 200,000 dead civilians, they were deliberately targeted to terrorize the population and destabilize the emperor and military regime. I've seen rationalizations of people who think they have justice on their side go to such extremes as to question the stability of the minds that tried to explain it away.
When Rachel Corrie was killed by that bulldozer, there was some people who were saying, it was her fault. She asked for it. She shouldn't have been there. That's how far people will go once they use that as the overwhelming instrument of policy.
We have heard Secretary Colin Powell and others say, there's no military solution to this conflict. Well some people over there haven't heard that. And the people who manufacture cluster bombs and helicopter gun ships and napalm and F16s that are sent over there, they haven't heard that either.
Whenever there's a conflict where there's huge imbalance of power between one side and the other and do you know any conflict where there is a greater imbalance of military power between Israel and the Palestinians? Between prehistoric stones with a few rifles and tanks and jets and artillery and helicopter gun ships and all kinds of other super modern techniques of warfare. The question rises, can there ever be a peaceful solution, whether with a binational state as Ed Said proposed years ago or as a viable, as the saying goes, Palestinian state, capital east Jerusalem ending the colonies, controlling the water, that's part of a viable Palestinian state.
We wouldn't allow Canada to controlÑmove in and control the headwaters of the Mississippi, would you? A viable Palestinian state involves all these and more that you've discussed. Now who agrees with that?
It's a severe criticism of our policy that our government has never allied itself with the very, very sizable peace movement inside Israel. It's done everything to marginalize it, it will support any regime that goes into power regardless of whether it advocates peace or modus vivendi or status quo or takeover or burgeoning colonies or expulsion.
The peace movement in Israel has filled Tel Aviv Square with 100,000 people demonstrating. That's like five million here. It is composed of members of the Knesset, former ministers of justice, distinguished artists, authors, scholars, workers, farmers. Before the most recent flash points in the last year or two back and forth, a majority of the Israelis wanted essentially what is now being considered the fundamentals of the settlement. Except perhaps they would oppose the right of return because they don't understand that most people, Palestinians, once they got a great free Palestinian state are not exactly going to want to return, although some older Palestinians will. That principle has to be fleshed out with some quantitative significance so it isn't inflated into a major propaganda excuse for sitting down and arriving at a settlement.
I don't think we can exaggerate the importance of the Israeli peace movement as an authentically legitimizing force for freedom of speech on this issue in congress, in our government, and in our civic arenas. And there's very little of that now.
A high official of the Clinton administration walked up to me at some meeting, I'd never met him before, and out of the blue he said the following, quote, if you're a Goy you can't get an Op ed in the major newspapers criticizing Israel. I said, you don't even know, what are you saying?. He said you only can criticize Israel if youÕre Jewish. He just came up out of the blue, obviously he had it on his mind, anybody he met down the stairs he'd say the same thing. He'd had a number of Op Eds rejected. This is a man of some substance, experience.
Now I want to take your patience just for a few minutes and I want to read what I mean when I say that there should be a demand in our government if they're really interested in a just peace to begin contacting, supporting and giving a stage to the Israeli peace movement and its allies in this country such as lead by Michael Lerner and Peace Now and others.
And I think the consequence of this will be to recognize that until that balance of power is restored by the United States in that equation over there, no matter what words you hear from administration officials, and they're getting a bit hackney, they're going nowhere. They're going nowhere because one side has too much military power and doesn't have an even greater military and political power restraining it. Israeli combat veterans over a year ago started a refusenik movement. They said they would never serve with the Israeli Army, they're called up every year, will never serve in the West Bank in Gaza.
In a statement in the leading Israeli newspaper announcing this courageous action they said the following, we will no longer fight beyond the green line for the purpose of occupying, deporting, destroying, blockading, killing, starving and humiliating an entire people, end quote. They were referring to the Palestinian people.
They now number over a thousand. They're not getting much publicity now. But you can imagine the courage it took, you can imagine the pressure they're under. You can imagine how many of them have already gone to jail. This is their statement. They said they would defend Israel proper as they have in the past. They will not be an instrument of oppression of the Palestinian people. The website is Seruv.org.
Now I want to just go very briefly in making this point. Israeli Premiere at the time, Ehud Barak, was quoted in HaÕaretz 3 June 1998, quote, if I were a Palestinian I'd also join a terror group, end quote.
I'm sure he's not justifying that kind of activity against his people. What he meant was, that he would be fighting for the liberation of his people if he was on the other side. David Ben-Gurion first Israeli prime minister, quoted by Nehum Goldman in the book "The Israeli Paradox" quote, if I were an Arab leader I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal, we've taken your country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They see but one thing, we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that? End quote. Ben-Gurion.

You can go right down to the present day with brave and persistent statements by members of the peace movement in Israel, including religious Zionists, 170 of them, who recently demanded an end to the occupation and to the settlement policy.
What to make of all this? I think in conclusion what we have to make is this.
We must never flag from our denunciation of violence in all its forms on all sides.
We must never flag from the replace the addition to that denunciation to demanding that our government perform in a just manner in resolving that conflict. The history of the world shows that there is no suppression of people's adherence to their homelands other than expulsion or genocide, North America was an example of both.
And so the government has to confront, our government has to confront this verity. Abu Mazen and Dahlan admit Arafat orders all terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.

Debka has learned, Hamas retains no more than four senior operations in West bank towns, and Jihad Islami only one. DEBKAfile has discovered the identity of the senior Hamas mastermind on the West Bank: Ahmed Saad of Nablus.

When Abbas and Dahlan were asked how the two Islamic groups were able to carry out daily strikes with so little manpower, they explained that when they wanted to stage an attack, they simply hired suicide hit teams from Arafat’s Fatah, Tanzim or al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades for an agreed fee.

In other words, the only functioning terrorist infrastructure on the West Bank belongs to Yasser Arafat, which in addition to carrying out its own operations, also subcontracts for the two Islamic groups.

The two Palestinian officials shared four more pieces of information with the American emissaries:

A. A truce on similar lines had been tentatively agreed with the Hamas and Jihad Islami in the Gaza Strip. It lacked a signature from the top rank. In Cairo, Abu Mazen was to meet Ramadan Shalah, the senior Hamas executive who had come especially from Damascus, and negotiate final terms. This might not be possible before the Aqaba summit.

B. Announcement of a Palestinian ceasefire might therefore not be released at Aqaba but held back for later.

C. Aside from Arafat’s organizations which they did not approach, Abu Mazen and Dahlan had not come to a ceasefire agreement with the terrorist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestinian, whose leader Ahmed Saadat is confined to Jericho for instigating the assassination of the Israeli tourist minister Rehavam Zeevi two years ago. Negotiations with Saadat’s men continue.

D. All the Palestinian squad leaders laid great stress on the release of terrorists held prisoner and detained by Israel, failing which they would lay themselves open to the charge of deserting their comrades. Abu Mazen initially demanded across-the-board- releases of Palestinian prisoners, whatever the charges against them. The Americans set limits, reluctant to attach themselves to a process that allowed terrorist-killers “with Israeli blood on their hands” to go free.

Two days before the Aqaba summit, the deal taking shape provides for the release of between 1,200 and 1,300 under-18 Palestinian prisoners and detainees plus 700-800 over 55s, leaving the hard core aged 18-55 in confinement.

As items of the pre-summit US-Palestinian-Israeli agenda were being ticked off, Yasser Arafat dropped his bombshell.

To mark Palestinian Children’s Day on June 1, he invited an audience of tots aged 3 to 5 to his headquarters in Ramallah. Addressing them solemnly as Palestinian President, he declared:

”Remember, each martyr wins the mercy of Allah!” He went on to intone the slogan that so often in the past signaled horrendous outbreaks of Palestinian suicidal homicides in Jerusalem’s streets, cafes, buses and campuses: “A martyr who falls in Jerusalem, is worth 40 martyrs who die anywhere else!”

Hearing that declaration, Israeli security forces braced themselves for the next onslaught of terror.

DEBKAfile readers know by now that Arafat’s utterances are carefully rehearsed, never haphazard or spontaneous. His followers are familiar with his almost ritualistic pronouncements and the directives implicit in each one. This time, he made sure every Palestinian was exposed to his speech to the children by having it rerun all day over Palestinian TV broadcasting from Ramallah, over and over again. It was also a warning to President Bush, ahead of the two summit conferences he leads this week - with Arab rulers Tuesday at Sharm al-Sheikh – notably Crown Prince Abdullah, Mubarak, Jordan’s King Abdullah and the three cornered meeting in Aqaba – that creating a Palestinian security-intelligence force to fight the “martyrs” would be futile; he, Arafat, had raised generation after generation of martyrs from the time they could walk to continue the battle for Jerusalem.

So what are we talking about? officials from the Israeli prime minister’s office in Jerusalem asked the two American envoys: A ceasefire or a fresh wave of terror?

When the Americans referred the question to Abu Mazen and Dahlan, this is what they were told:

We can promise you there will be relative calm most hours of the day and night. But we cannot be expected to bring all terrorist and suicide activity to a complete standstill. We have obtained the consent of most of the Palestinian factions to suspend for three months their routine operations, the almost hourly mortar, missile, shooting and bombing attacks inside Israel, in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip – but we can’t prevent the large-scale suicide attacks from continuing, although we have been promised they will be spaced out - say, one a week.

In view of the nature of the “ceasefire” on offer, Sharon has 48 hours to decide whether to attend the Aqaba summit and thus enter into peace negotiations with the Palestinians under the sword of continuing Palestinian terrorism, the trap that brought down his Labor predecessors in government and which he solemnly pledged never to walk into.

According to DEBKAfile’s Washington sources, once there Sharon will be presented with another bitter pill to swallow, the immediate evacuation of 102 Israeli outposts thrown up on the West Bank in 2001, some illegally, to defend roads and communities from Palestinian ambush.

DEBKAfile’s political analysts strongly doubt that the Sharon government, already weakened by unpopular economic austerity measures, will be strong enough to carry these two demands past popular opinion or even survive the opposition from its own ministers.

Israel Arrests Protesters as 'Security Risk'

Eight foreign nationals have been arrested in the occupied territories as Israeli authorities clamp down on international peace activists on the ground that they pose a "security risk".

The case of a Belfast journalist and language teacher who was mistakenly arrested by Israeli security forces in the belief he was a bomb-maker has put the spotlight on the latest arrests.

The eight, who included two Britons, were being held in an Israeli police station in the West Bank and were refused bail. The Britons, Alex Perry and Saul Reid, were among a group of four arrested while removing a crude roadblock put up by the Israeli army to block Palestinian traffic - for security reasons, the army says. The other four were arrested while staging a sit-in to protest against Israel's construction of a "security fence" inside the West Bank. The Israeli authorities have been trying to deport them.

But unlike John Morgan, the Belfast journalist and language teacher mistaken for a Real IRA explosives expert, who continued to be held for questioning by the Shin Bet security service yesterday, there is no case of mistaken identity. The arrests were part of the Israeli army's attempts to crack down on foreign peace activists who travel to the occupied territories to protest against the Israeli army's tactics there, and in some cases to act as human shields for Palestinians.

In particular the army is keen to put a stop to the activities of one particular organization, to which the eight arrested are all affiliated: the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). The organization has attracted hundreds of young peace activists here from Europe and the US since the start of the intifada.

They take part in a variety of activities which range from working with Palestinian children to standing in the way of tanks. Many stay in Palestinian houses scheduled for demolition by the Israeli army, to prevent them being knocked down. In April the Israeli army issued orders to step up deportations of ISM activists.

The Israeli authorities sought to link that order to the case of two British suicide bombers who posed as peace activists before carrying out an attack on a Tel Aviv bar that killed three people, but the order was issued two weeks before the attack.

The ISM is openly pro-Palestinian but its protesters are unarmed non-combatants, and the ISM supports only non-violent protest, which makes it surprising that the Israel authorities have categorized the group and its activists a "security risk". The authorities say that by interfering with army operations in the occupied territories, the activists put the lives of soldiers at risk.

The authorities' submission to court opposing bail for the activists read: "They should not be released from custody, not even within the Tel Aviv district and with a commitment by the plaintiffs not to leave that area," and says this is based on "the recommendation of security personnel, according to which the organization ISM and its activists are perceived to be a security risk". The submission continues: "The goal of the ISM ... is to thwart the activity of the security forces in the territories and impede their work of preventing terrorism by confrontations with IDF soldiers, barricading themselves in the homes of suicide terrorists to prevent their demolition, transport of Palestinians between various areas during periods of closure, and the like".

Several activists have been seriously wounded. The order to step up deportations came after an American activist, Rachel Corrie, was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, in March.

Tom Hurndall, a British activist, is in a coma after being shot in the head by an Israeli sniper in Rafah a month later as he tried to help trapped Palestinian children out of the line of fire.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask a question: why Israel? Why Jerusalem? I get the distinct feeling alot of these people could care less about the Jewish people. Most of them are not Jewish and seem to have more than a little contempt for any non-western culture. Some even go so far as to glorify Christian purges in which the Jews suffered (ie Crusades, Inquistion, etc). So they obviously don't care about the Jews.

I feel its something deeper, darker. Maybe its because the heavy influx of European/American Jews gives them (and their media/business/political puppet masters) more power in the Middle East. After all, that way they can sell American goods like Nike, Abercrombie & Fitch, Britnney Spears, Pepsi and whatever other crap they've decided to impose on the rest of the world. AL-KHALIL (IRNA) - The Zionist state has tacitly admitted that doctors at the Israeli forensic institute at Abu Kabir had extracted the vital organs of three Palestinian teenage children killed by the Israeli Army nearly ten days ago.

Zionist Minister of Health Nessim Dahhan said in response to a question by Arab member of the Zionist Parliament 'Knesset', Ahmed Teibi, on Tuesday that he couldn't deny that organs of Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli forces were taken out for transplants or scientific research.

"I couldn't say for sure that something like that (taking out the organs) didn't happen."

Teibi said he had received credible evidence proving that Israeli doctors at the forensic institute extracted such vital organs as the heart, kidneys, and liver from the bodies of Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli Army in Gaza and the West Bank.

The Israeli authorities normally detain the bodies of martyred Palestinians for a few days without any explanation.

The Israeli Army on December 30 killed three Palestinian boys, aged 14-15 near Khan Younis in unclear circumstances.

The army issued conflicting reports on the killing, while Palestinian sources charged that Israeli troops murdered the three unarmed boys in cold blood.

The bodies of the three boys were handed over to the Palestinians for burial on 6 January.

However, shortly before burial, Palestinian medical authorities examined the bodies and found out that the main vital organs were missing from the bodies.

The Israeli media have nearly completely ignored the affair.

I would definately have to say that the media has done its hardest to try and mentally castrate all men in the US, and the world at large. I mean, look at the whole fuckin metrosexual "tend". And about law enforcement, that encourages men not to act like men. In other countries, if another man were to defile your relatives or steal from you, you'd be respected if you took physical retribution. Yet here rapists, murderers and thieves go free.
