More than a thousand people turned up to march and attend a Peace Rally in Salt Lake City Saturday, January 18.
Salt Lake had it's own Peace Rally and March Saturday, January 18 in solidarity with the Peace Rallies around the world. While the biggest rallies were held in Washington D.C. and San Francisco, Salt Lake's "Rekindle the Dream -- Unite for Peace" turnout was estimated to be around 1,000 people according to the Deseret News and 3,000 according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
The rallies were held on the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, which was also the 12th anniversary of the beginning of the first Gulf War. Following a film and Teach-In at the Jubilee Center, people from all over the state marched with a police escort to the City-County Building for the rally, yelling chants and cheers such as "What do we want? NO WAR! When do we want it? RIGHT NOW!". Speakers at the rally included: Mayor Rocky Anderson, Dee Rowland of the Catholic Diocese, Ed Firmage of the World Federalists and Wes Sudbury, a conscientious objector recently featured in the Salt Lake Tribune. Entertainment was provided by Andy Monaco and "Pom Poms Not Bomb Bombs" -- Salt Lake's Radical Cheerleaders. The rally ended with a sing along of "We Shall Overcome" led by Lili deCair and Patrick Diehl. Peace Part 2: 'War' Response

Hey Anne,
Came here to find out the same thing. Hopefully folks will gather in solidarity with others around the country and globe and the first weekend chance to show our 'war' response. I know of nothing organized but assume many will be at the regular meeting places or City County building at noon.
Be prepared for increased emotions, now that the invasion has begun. I have noticed both more support ~and~ meaner heckling since the bombs began falling.
