Karl Rove, the brain behind Brainless Bush, speaks at U. Protestors attempt to make an anti-war point.
This afternoon at the University of Utah, Karl Rove, the brains behind the "brainless one" (Bush) spoke to a large crowd of mostly Repub supporters.
There were close to 30 people protesting the possibility of war, holding signs that said things like "ACT LIKE IT'S A GLOBE NOT AN EMPIRE" "NO BLOOD FOR OIL" "WAR 4 OIL IS MURDER 4 PROFIT" "ARE IRAQIS HUMAN? ARE YOU?". There was also a sign saying "Save ROE" -- a likely reference to the Bush Regime's anti-choice agenda, which could see a lot of power with an ultra-right wing Senate and Congress coming in.
Mr. Rove kept his gaze carefully away from the protestors at the back so as not to distract himself from his message. He talked mostly about how the greatest leaders of our country didn't allow public opinion polls to dictate policy. He also stated on a number of occasions how history will tell how good the decisions that Bush is making are/were.
Well Mr. Rove -- why wait for history to tell us? Why don't we make the effort now to determine if the policies of the Bush administration are in the best interests of the American People and the well being of the rest of the world? Are we too afraid to scrutinize these issues now, wanting to look closer at them after time has past (and Bush has left the stage)?
Diana Lee Hirschi, who had managed to get a seat at the front, asked the only difficult question of the afternoon. Wearing a fuschia shirt with the words "NO WAR" large and in black on her chest, she mentioned the 200,000 anti-war protestors in Washington DC on Oct. 26th, and how we can get our message to the president.
Mr. Rove, a master of spin, first told her to do things in the usual way -- petition, call legislators, etc (all things that have proven ineffective -- calls against war in Iraq were coming in to legislators and senators offices anywhere from 15 to 1 , to 50 to 1, and still congress voted away their right to declare war to the oil-thirsty Bush Regime). Then he told her that she talked about 200,000, but he was more concerned with the 3,000 who died on Sept.11, and then preceded to link the Iraqi conflict to Al Qaida -- a common tactic of the Bush regime that has yet to produce any link between the two, but is using the power of 9/11 to justify many policies of the regime that would not have been acceptable pre-9/11.
Mr. Rove also made statements that indicated the proposed war was the only way to create peace in the world for his 13-year old son.
Kind of put me in mind of some of the protestors there -- one in a Bush mask, and 3 following in sheep masks holding signs that quoted the Big Brother philosophies from the book "1984" -- "Freedom is Slavery" "Ignorance is Strength" and "War is Peace". Almost matched Mr. Rove's viewpoints to a T.
